Job Id: 5699 Title: System Engineer Location: Onsite- 425C Corporate Circle Golden, Colorado 80401 Duration: 12 Months Description: Major duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Troubleshoot, maintain, and perform repairs on fiber optic devices/switches.
  • Document fiber-optic assets.
  • Perform Power Meter/Light Source, spectrum analysis, and OTDR testing on the fiber network to determine the condition of fiber strands.
  • Respond to network outages to assist in determining if the cause of the outage is on the fiber-optic network.
  • Perform locates on CDOT underground utilities.
  • Assist with the management of the CO811 system to include receiving calls and/or emails from CO811 and sending responses to the Utility Notification Center of Colorado.
  • Assist the team in the maintenance and upkeep of existing infrastructure to include repair/replacement of cables, pull boxes, trace wire installation, and other duties as assigned.
Work Environment:
  • The work performed by this position is seasonal in nature. It is anticipated that the employee will work from March-November approximately 30-40 hours per week.
  • Primarily 6:00 am 4:30 pm work hours, Monday-Thursday
  • Approximately 90% spent in the field, 10% spent in the office
  • Travel required during work hours throughout Metro Denver/Front Range
  • Occasional overnight travel 1-3 times a year throughout Colorado
  • Required to operate CDOT vehicles
  • Access equipment aerially to perform maintenance.
  • Perform maintenance operations within traffic-controlled areas, delineated roadway shoulders, and median areas as safely needed.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Three years of fiber optic experience that included field work troubleshooting, making repairs, locating, and maintaining equipment.
  • Must provide tools necessary to complete the job (fiber optic splice machine, prefer fujikura 50S or better, OTDR, hand tools, splice vehicle or tent, power meter and light source test kit, and a fiber identifier)

  • Demonstrate success with the duties listed in the Description of the Job section;
  • Highest work/personal ethics and integrity;
  • Good troubleshooting skills are necessary to rapidly track down issues across the entire state of 1500+ miles of fiber optic line.
  • Knowledge and experience with traffic control and proper protocols for working on the roadside near traffic.
  • Strong attention to technical detail and accuracy.
  • A passion for safety.
  • Ability to use computers and computer systems (including hardware and software) to complete and document work tasks.
  • Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent reasoning, investigative, analytical, and problem-solving ability.
