Compensation OverviewThe annual base salary range provided for this position is a nationwide market range and represents a broad range of salaries for this role across the country. The actual salary for this position will be determined by a number of factors, including the scope, complexity and location of the role; the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate; and other conditions of employment. As part of our comprehensive compensation and benefits program, employees are also eligible for performance-based cash incentive awards.Salary Range$157,800.00 - $260,400.00Target Openings1What Is the Opportunity?Travelers Software Engineering team enables a seamless customer experience through technology solutions. As an Assistant Vice President, Software Engineering you will accelerate growth and transformation of our Technology landscape. You will leverage your leadership skills and engineering experience to strategically plan, influence, and execute design, development and implementation of complex problems and establish best practices and standards.What Will You Do?- A critical responsibility for this role is to be knowledgeable with Policy Mgmt and Administration; knowledgeable with the platform and be influential in helping lead the business in leveraging available technology capabilities in an optimal fashion to meet business needs
- This role will be responsible for partnering with the business to build the coverages for ML products in support of Strategic Platform within Guidewire. In this highly visible position, accountable for managing and helping develop the technology strategy and portfolio of solutions and capabilities spanning multiple agile teams that typically impact the entire business unit set of products. Included responsibilities are Forms and Rating work for all of ML.
- Responsible for 12 to 15+ Teams encompassing Travelers, Supplier and SI Partner Resources; more as we scale products overtime
- We will be leveraging an existing open position for the census; the previous Circle Leader role has been disbanded and the responsibilities added to this new role in addition to the new Strategic Platform Policy Admin functions.
- Lead teams of Software Engineers by providing technical guidance and mentorship while modeling Travelers' leadership behaviors to foster a team environment.
- Partner with businesses to establish strategic direction, develop product roadmaps, provide technical oversight for large programs, and implement optimal solutions to meet business needs.
- Align work with business and engineering priorities to realize meaningful impact.
- Build collaborative relationships with key leaders and peers across the organization to ensure the best use of overall resources.
- Provide unique opportunities and challenges to enrich development of team members, assess skill gaps, develop mitigation efforts, and equip individuals with skills, tools, and standard approaches to improve the overall quality of engineering practices and skill sets.
- Apply knowledge of current industry trends and techniques to formulate solutions for software engineering problems.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Ten years of related experience; including insurance / financial services industry experience
- Expertise in Policy Administration, Rate/Quote/Issue and ML Business a plus. Guidewire Policy Center experience a plus.
- Demonstrated experience implementing current technology trends and techniques (e.g., cloud-based solutions leveraging microservices)
- Interprets internal/ external business challenges and recommends best practices to improve SDLC processes
- Excellent delivery skills with the ability to examine and assess the effectiveness of software design strategies and methodologies, devise, apply, and share ways to ensure the quality of complex computer systems, incorporate awareness and understanding of work happening outside of the team, and develop widely used technical metrics that enable engineers to better understand and deliver their work.
- Demonstrated track record of domain expertise including the ability to consult on business priorities and optimize value by identifying business aligned solutions and improve company capabilities by thoughtfully introducing concepts and technologies from the industry.
- Strong problem solving skills with the ability to create architecture that is particularly robust against single points of failure and turn future areas of need into action.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to describe technology concepts in ways the business can understand, document effectively, and collaborate across disparate groups.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to engage with other leaders and networks to solve problems as well as work to improve the entire engineering organization by sharing knowledge while creating opportunities for others to develop skills.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field, or its equivalent in work experience.
- Seven years of programming/development experience.
- Five years of experience of technical leadership.
