Apex has an opportunity for a Financial Analyst for our client in the Greater New Haven Connecticut area. Here are the details:

Position Description:

Reporting to the Lead Admin of IT Finance & Administration, responsible for financial planning and analysis and accounting for the Project Portfolio. This role will perform analysis, create reports, post journal entries, and share the financial information with project managers, team leaders, Capital Accounting team and senior leadership. Collaborates with project managers to understand current spend and develop forecasted project spend. Works with Capital Accounting team and IT Finance to ensure that project activity (operating and capital transactions) is correctly stated in the general ledger.
  • Compiles and analyzes financial information for an organization and serves as primary accountant for IT Project Portfolio. Identifies risks and trends that enable unit and/or senior leadership to make informed decisions. Recommends improvements to systems, methods, practices, policies, and procedures through information review.
Responsibilities:
  • Provides technical analysis to determine present and future financial performance. Organizes information from a variety of sources for use in analyzing plans and forecasts. Collaborates with all levels of management, both internally and externally, to gather, analyze, summarize, prepare, and present recommendations regarding financial plans and other complex financial matters. Researches and evaluates information to resolve issues and makes recommendations. Develops and/or executes complex financial models.
  • Analyzes and synthesizes information and designs and creates accurate and timely reports. Designs financial reporting to meet the compliance needs of internal and external users. Extracts and consolidates data from multiple sources.
  • Contributes to the planning and improvement of practices, processes, and systems. Collaborates with all levels of internal and external contacts to carry out department goals. Provides a high level of service that cultivates and maintains strong working relationships and communicates effectively; takes ownership and accountability for timeliness, accuracy, and relationship management.
  • Identifies and raises potential financial opportunities, issues, risks, ideas, and solutions. Identifies the appropriate stakeholders to include in consultations, communications, approvals, or buy-ins for designing and implementing changes.
  • Establishes, implements and/or maintains strong internal controls in areas of assigned responsibility to provide reasonable assurance of effective and appropriate resource use, accurate financial information, and adherence to contractual obligations and agreements, policies, procedures, and external regulatory requirements.
  • May perform other duties as assigned.
Required Skills:
  • Detail-oriented with proven ability to work with financial information and multiple financial systems to include advanced Excel. Working knowledge of accounting principles and practices. Demonstrated ability building, tracking, and forecasting financial and nonfinancial resources and reconciling expenditures.
  • Proven ability to estimate complex projects, and create complete and accurate financial forecasts
  • Excellent analytical, customer service, communication and writing skills. Ability to adapt communication style to address the needs of individuals at all levels throughout IT in a proactive manner and feel comfortable doing so.
  • Well-developed computer skills, especially strong proficiency with MS Excel spreadsheet and database query tools.
  • Demonstrated willingness to work as a member of a team as well as ability to function independently.
Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance or Business Administration and a minimum of two years of related work experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • An interest in project and portfolio management. Demonstrated skills with metrics, reporting tools and techniques, and dashboards. Ex. PowerBI
