Description Job Description:Leidos's Military & Veterans Health Solutions Group is seeking a Research Assistant in Audiology to support our operations at the Naval Submarine Medical Research Laboratory (NSMRL) in Groton, CT. NSMRL conducts research and investigates the effects of medical, psychological, and performance issues associated with the health and performance of naval personnel in operational and non-operational settings. The Research Assistant will be responsible for assisting in research studies and analyses in support of NSMRL’s hearing conservation program. Specific responsibilities include:Interact with and assist principal investigator at the NSMRL in all aspects of experimental efforts which may include:

Planning, e.g., scientific protocol development and preparation and setup and testing of experimental equipment.

Develop scientific protocols for executing required human research.

Assist with audiology research using experimental apparatuses used to investigate hearing protection devices and communication systems.

Execute setup, testing, and troubleshooting of experimental equipment.

Execute all aspects of research subject recruiting and coordinate with subjects and other research personnel to ensure successful protocol execution.

As required, maintain ASHA certification to perform relevant speech, language, and hearing tests; including interpretation and analyses of test results.

Communicate with audiologists and hearing conservation researchers outside NSMRL to maintain awareness of technology developments, developments in the field, and explore opportunities for collaboration, etc.

Prepare and present reports, presentations, and other documents as directed.

Adhere to and implement scientific review board and institutional board review procedures.

Assist in the development and tracking of program budget and, when necessary, coordinate with acquisition personnel to ensure contracts are executed in a timely manner. Prepare travel and purchase requests with necessary support documentation.

Provide other research-related engineering support as needed.

Basic Qualifications:

Candidates must have completed a Bachelor's degree in audiology, or speech/language sciences.

Candidates must have documented evidence of research methods experience (Bachelors thesis or course work in research methods).

Candidates must demonstrate the ability to interact and effectively communicate both written and orally with a wide variety of people.

Due to Federal contracting requirements, candidates must be US Citizens.

The candidate will be required to acquire, at a minimum, a SECRET classification access level. Preference will be given to a candidate who already has this clearance level.

Preferred Skills:

Familiarity with HIPAA, PHI/PII compliance, etc. is highly desired.

ASHA certification is desired.

Computer literacy, Microsoft Office proficiency and working knowledge of statistical software preferred.

Skills should include a foundational and theoretical understanding of general scientific principles.

Experience in a human subject research setting and experience in the US federal government system is highly desired.

Work Location:

Work is to be primarily performed on a government installation. The normal work week is Monday through Friday 0730 to 1600.

CONUS travel (10%) may be required.
