Senior Accountant

Role: Senior AccountantLocation: New Haven, CTType: Full Time Core Responsibilities• Controls daily input of general ledger activity and closing of general ledger each month. Works on daily basis with general ledgers for insurance operations, investment management entities, and related Charitable entities (U.S. 501(c)(3) and Canadian Not-for-Profit entities).• Prepares quarterly and annual statements using Workpaper Manager (WPM) and/or monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements using QuickBooks.• Prepares annual audited financial statements and accompanying footnotes.• Supervises work of Accountant(s) and Associate Accountant(s) and provides training and education on job responsibilities and business operations.• Oversees monitoring of monthly clearing account reconciliations prepared by business areas.• Prepares or oversees preparation of depreciation, expense account analysis and allocation schedules.• Prepares monthly, quarterly, or year-end schedules, as requested by management, external auditor, and various year-end surveys.• Essential Competencies• Professionalism/Personal Accountability, Collaboration and Teamwork, Communication, Flexible and Adapts to Change, Service to Customers and Clients• Additional Competencies for managers: Strategic Planning, Talent Development, LeadershipSkill QualificationsRequired:• Substantial and demonstrable financial skills to be used in financial analysis and reporting• Strong organizational and coordination skills to support multi-tasking• Supervisory skills or ability• Strong oral, listening and written communication skills• Strong interpersonal skills; ability to work collaboratively• Analytical and problem-solving skills• Sound judgment• Systems/Technical Knowledge:• Ingenium, Life70• QuickBooks• Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint• Education and Experience QualificationsRequired:• BS in Accounting• 4-6 years of insurance industry experience or an equivalent combination of training and experience
