Compensation OverviewThe annual base salary range provided for this position is a nationwide market range and represents a broad range of salaries for this role across the country. The actual salary for this position will be determined by a number of factors, including the scope, complexity and location of the role; the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate; and other conditions of employment. As part of our comprehensive compensation and benefits program, employees are also eligible for performance-based cash incentive awards.

We are seeking a dynamic Senior Cloud Engineer who is passionate about engineering solutions that maximize the cost efficiency of our cloud infrastructure. As a Senior Cloud Engineer at Travelers for FinOps, you'll have the opportunity to participate in a major transformation within the company by leveraging your expertise in technology infrastructure, cloud, network, compute, storage, and virtualization in combination with a deep understanding of finance, governance, and business needs to engineer cost optimization solutions. The Work Arrangement for this position is based on location.What Will You Do?As a Senior Cloud Engineer, you will bring your DevOps knowledge and software engineering skillset into the complex, dynamic and exciting world of public cloud finance. This is a highly rewarding position, where you'll be able to see an immediate impact from your contributions. This includes analysis of current systems, identification of automation opportunities for cost efficiency, creation, testing and deployment of automation scripts, daily monitoring, and administration.

As Senior Cloud Engineer, you will:
  • Bring your in-depth knowledge of cloud & SaaS spend analysis, as well as an understanding of cost optimization opportunities to a new FinOps team being built inside Travelers.
  • We are tasked with granular cost allocation, measuring unit costs, developing charge-back reporting, budgeting & forecasting cloud/SaaS spend, centrally governing and controlling Committed Use Discounts & and addressing cost anomalies and cloud resource inefficiencies.
  • Build, maintain and improve real-time cloud cost and consumption dashboards using Qlik sense and PowerBI.
  • Build budgeting and forecasting for cloud & SaaS expenses including monthly financial reporting and invoice reconciliations for leadership and executive teams.
  • Implement and operationalize Cloud Automated tools in order to identify and optimize cost trends across our different Cloud Services.
  • Build automated workflows (using ServiceNow) to send tasks to application owners to right-size, shut-down, decommission cloud resources based on recommendations received from tools like Turbonomics, Flexera.
  • Take action for FinOps Optimization levers like right-sizing to correct underutilization, enable auto-scale, identify and decommission zombie resources.
  • Write automation scripts for curfew enablement, build automation capabilities to shut-down unused resources.
  • Analyze spend trends, anomalies, savings opportunities, and consult engineering teams providing specific improvement recommendations influencing their strategy and execution of cloud & SaaS service utilization/consumption.
  • Implement and track key performance metrics of FinOps.
  • Serve as the Subject Matter Expert for Cloud Analytics and financial management tools.
  • Review issues logs and metrics to identify trends and solutions that should be implemented.
  • Maintain in-depth documentation of activities and system configuration.
  • Perform troubleshooting, resolution, and problem analysis.
  • Work closely with Business Unit (OU) partners to ensure appropriate cost management strategies (e.g., right sizing and alert strategies) are deployed and maintained at scale to manage costs.
  • Participate in architectural discussions to help Application Teams make the most cost-efficient choices.

What is a Must Have?
  • Bachelor's Degree in a Technical Discipline or equivalent work experience
  • Minimum 5 years of professional experience in development and scripting of cloud based automated solutions.
  • Minimum 5 years of either Azure, AWS or Google Cloud Platform Cloud experience.
  • Knowledge of Public Cloud offerings and consumption models.
  • Hands-on experience in cloud computing (Infrastructure as a Service, Storage, Platforms as a Services).
  • Experience in one or more automation/development languages (PowerShell, Command Line Interface & C Sharp, Python) and infrastructure delivery (CI/CD)
  • Proficient analytical skills and experience with cost optimization in Azure, AWS or Google Cloud Platform.
  • Good understanding of cloud architecture, main building blocks, workload types, migration patterns and tools

Additional Desired Qualifications:
  • AWS Certified Developer or equivalent.
  • Proficient Cloud cost management and FinOps knowledge, including but not limited to chargeback modeling, cost savings and avoidance tracking, trending and variance analysis and forecasting.
  • Cloud FinOps Certified Practioners Certification (FOCP).
  • Experienced in containerized environments, microservices, Terraform and server-less.
