What You'll Contribute

The Director of Digital Collections Communication Strategy will be responsible for developing, designing and executing communication strategies across all key channels with a keen focus on enhancing digital channel strategies such as web, SMS text messaging, e-mail, and mobile app. The Director will be responsible for driving strategy recommendations across these channels with the primary goal of creating efficiencies and increasing effectiveness of Sallie Mae's Collections department. This position will be expected to work autonomously to create new communication recommendations and will meet regularly with senior leaders and business partners in collections strategies, information technology, finance, legal, compliance, and operations to drive the business forward. The ideal candidate for this highly visible position will have excellent project management and communication skills with robust experience in digital focused communications.

What You'll Do

Communication Strategy Development and Validation
  • Designs and builds a multi-channel, digital collections strategy, that both lowers losses and enhances operational efficiency with a focus on digital outreach, web and mobile app experience, and channel segmentation and optimization.
  • Owns of all Collection Strategy communication channels such as web, e-mail, text messaging, mobile app, and physical mail.
  • Recommends verbiage for customer communications that lead to increased customer engagement.
  • Designs and implements proper test and control experiments for communication strategy recommendations.
  • Presents new strategy ideas and findings to senior management team.
Communication Strategy Oversight
  • Works with key vendors to ensure proper implementation of commination strategies.
  • Guides team members to ensure proper tracking of strategy implementation and assess impact of those strategies.
  • Challenges and guides direct reports.
Project Work
  • Works collaboratively across the organization to ensure successful implementation of the key initiatives and new strategies.

Hybrid role; 2-3 days work in office and 2-3 days work from home

What You Have

Minimum Education, Skills and Experience Required
  • Bachelor's Degree in Communications, Marketing, Business and/or equivalent, relevant work experience.
  • 7 + years working in a customer communication focused role.
  • 3+ years focus on digital communications or digital communication strategies.
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct presentations in a well-organized, concise manner focusing on relaying key points to senior level management.
  • Proficient with Microsoft applications and all applicable business areas systems.
  • Proven ability to successfully handle multiple priorities in a fast-paced, time-sensitive environment.
  • Has strong strategic thinking, operational excellence leadership, and control-oriented mentality.

Preferred Education, Skills and Experience
  • Prior experience in collection communications or collections strategies or other consumer credit strategic field.
