Perform maintenance, testing and repairs of railroad HVAC / Refrigeration systems ( HVACR ) on board of passenger trains ( railway rolling stock ) or light rail vehicles, and galley equipment using various manual and power tools
Validation, testing, and repair of HVACR (35-ton and smaller HVAC package units), chillers, refrigerators, freezers, commercial microwave ovens, convection ovens, water heaters, and toasters.
Assemble, repair, and replace mechanical systems: wiring, connectors, and contactors, compressors, motors, fans, circuit breakers, valves, switches, and refrigeration piping.
Qualifications :
High school diploma or GED + ideally a completion of technical school or apprenticeship program ( HVAC, HVACR related ), ideally a Journeyman HVAC License
Associate's degree will be a plus ( electrical engineering, electrical engineering technology, HVAC/R, etc)
Must have previous experience with HVAC-R systems for several years
Must have previous experience with repairs and testing of advanced HVAC/R electrical / electronic systems and components (ideally equipment installed on board of trains, airplanes, ships or industrial-grade installations)
Must be capable of reading, drafting, and interpreting schematics / blueprints
Ability to perform root cause analysis on failed components when required.
Additionally - brazing / soldering experience required (high pressure systems)
Must be computer literate ( MS Office, etc. ) to create, track and maintain accurate documentation of work performed ( records keeping )
Knowledge of Lock Out Tag Out (LOTO) procedures.
Safe use and operation of power tools such as drills, pneumatic presses, pneumatic tools, etc.
Safe use and operation of hand tools such as : wire crimpers, wire strippers, screwdrivers, pliers, hammers, wrenches, torque wrenches, files, and socket sets, etc.
Ability to operate a variety of portable/diagnostic test equipment, including refrigerant gauges, multimeters, current probes, megohmmeters (meggers), PC, and graphic information to diagnose malfunctions.
