Auxiliary Systems Engineer

This position is in the Aircraft Carrier Design and Systems Engineering Directorate (SEA 05V) at Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA). The duty station will be at the Washington Navy Yard. The incumbent serves as an Auxiliaries Systems Engineer directly supporting the five Nimitz and Ford Class Aircraft Carrier Ship Design Managers (SDMs) in the Aircraft Carrier Design and Systems Engineering Division (NAVSEA 05V).

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Lead the Compressed Air Systems Working Group (CASWG) and the stakeholders.
  • Provide technical support and assess risk for technical decisions for Ford Class Ship Design Managers (SDMs) and Auxiliary System Engineering Manager (SEM)
  • Collaborate with the SUPSHIP Newport News to resolve Auxiliary System technical matters
  • Provide written responses to requests for technical assistance or adjudication received via letter, Departure from Specification (DFS), Liaison Action Request (LAR), Steam Plant Action Request (SPAR), Availability Work Package (AWP) Change Request and Nuclear Liaison Action Request (NLAR)
  • Participate and coordinate Technical Assessment Team (TAT) reviews for Ship Change Documents (SCDs)
  • Coordinate with Engineering Agents, Technical Authorities, TYCOM, PMS 312, PMS 378, SUPSHIP, Newport News Shipbuilding, & other activities
  • Review Technical Feedback Reports (TFBRs) for Planned Maintenance System (PMS) changes requiring Designated Technical Representative (DTR) review
  • Review technical data packages, drawings, reports, logistics products, training, etc. and provide written technical recommendations
  • Review ship, procurement, and systems specifications and submit written proposals for changes
  • Oversee tasking at NSWC by providing technical guidance, reviewing technical products, evaluating annual proposals, etc.

Qualifications

(Requirement) Engineering technician with prior experience as an E-7 or above or an Engineer with a Bachelor's degree and 5 years' experience with Navy, Coast Guard, or Merchant Marine
  • (Desire) Engineering technician who was qualified to stand duty as an Engineering Duty Officer (EDO)
  • (Desire) Engineer with degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Systems engineering from an accredited university
  • (Desire) Working with or at a shipyard, Naval Surface/Undersea Warfare Center (NSWC/NUWC), Supervisor of Shipbuilding Command (SUPSHIP), Regional Maintenance Center (RMC), and/or Type Commander (TYCOM) supporting construction, operation, maintenance, modernization, and/or repair of shipboard auxiliary systems. Experience working with technical authority (e.g. NAVSEA 05 and 08). Experience working with program managers (e.g. PEO Carriers, PMS 312, PMS 378, etc.) in an engineering role
(Requirement) Experience with Compressed Air Systems.
  • (Desired) Experience with one or more of the following auxiliary systems: Air Conditioning (AC) plants; refrigeration systems (including modular systems); seawater and freshwater systems including pumps; oxygen and nitrogen generating systems; and/or Heating, Ventilation, & Air Conditioning (HVAC)

(Requirement) Experience with US Navy or commercial vessels
  • (Desire) Preferably experience with nuclear powered ships
(Requirement) Good technical writing and communication skills
  • (Desire) Strong writing and communication skills
One must have good interpersonal, problem-solving, analytical, mathematical, and organizational skills. Ability to follow directions is a must. Applicants must be able to work well alone and as part of a team.

Secret Security Clearance and U.S. Citizenship required.
