Our unaffiliated synagogue congregation in Springfield is looking for a skilled Bookkeeper to maintain our financial records. The Bookkeeper will be an essential member of our team, working directly with our Treasurer, VP of Finance, President, and Executive Director, not only aiding with routine financial activities necessary to operations, but also collaborating to create stronger internal controls, refined workflows, and clear pathways of communication.
Anticipated part-time requirements are presently 20 hours per week with the opportunity to grow into a full-time, salaried position with increasing responsibility. Additionally there is the potential of the role becoming hybrid, part-time onsite and part-time remote, with the creation of new workflows.
Qualifications:
The candidate should have a firm understanding of the basic principles of double-entry accounting and familiarity with the duties and goals of Managerial Accounting.
Prior experience with ShulCloud or QuickBooks Online is a significant plus
Working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel is mandatory – working with tables (not pivot tables) and mail merge will be a frequently used skill. Familiarity with Adobe Acrobat helpful.
Summary Responsibilities:
Forward notifications of new or resigned members to Executive Director
Verify notifications of credit card payments received to CRM report
Syncing the daily online payment deposits to our QuickBooks
Applying cash and check deposits to member accounts in our CRM, ShulCloud
Reconciling the online payment deposits report to our merchant account
Processing vendor invoices or staff/volunteer reimbursement requests
Reconciling operating and other bank accounts
Reconciling Paypal transactions to operating account
Reconciling credit card statement
Pushing out automated mailer for account balances/invoices
Running P&L and BS and emailing to treasurer
Processing staff reimbursement requests to go on payroll
Running payroll in ADPRun and creating JE in QBO to record expense
processing health insurance payments and investment deposits related to payroll
Running report to generate annual tax letters, pushing out automated mailer for emailed letters
Checking member lists for account status changes, then applying batch billing of annual dues
P&L and BS for closing fiscal year
Enter new FY budget into QBO
Assist Religious School with enrollment acceptance/approval and apply billing
Perform Preschool enrollment billing if not handled by PS Director
Creating or reactivating charge types for event registrations
