Description SAIC is seeking a highly motivated and self-directed professional to fill the role of remote Senior Data Scientist to serve on a team supporting Veterans Affairs. The Senior Data Scientist will be part of a high performing team that is tasked with supporting the VA DoD Identity Repository (VADIR) and Veterans Information Solution (VIS) As part of the team, you will act as the data subject matter expert for veteran's military service history data. Works in cross-functional teams with data at all stages of the analysis lifecycle to derive actionable insight. Translates mission needs into an end-to-end analytical approach to achieve results. Performs the pre-analytics areas of data collection and understanding, data cleansing and integration, and data storage and retrieval. Determines the appropriate analytics based on the data and the desired outcomes, using techniques including feature detection, statistics, data mining, predictive modeling, machine learning, natural language processing, and business intelligence. Interprets the validity of results and communicates the meaning of those results. Has familiarity with data wrangling, analytics, and visualization software and programming languages, including analytics methods for big data. Follows a scientific approach to generate value from data, verifying results at each step. Primary Responsibilities: • Work closely with project managers to understand and maintain focus on their analytics needs, including critical metrics and KPIs, and deliver actionable insights to relevant decision-makers • Proactively analyze data to answer key questions for stakeholders or yourself, with an eye on what drives business performance, and investigate and communicate which areas need improvement in efficiency and productivity • Ensure the data quality and integrity in the database • Develops technical solutions to complex problems, which require the regular use of ingenuity and creativity • Create and maintain rich interactive visualizations through data interpretation and analysis, with reporting components from multiple data sources • Interface with internal teams and customers • Participate in, and document the results of, peer code reviews • Create SDLC mandated project and product documentation • Reports to a Scrum team lead with additional oversight provided by project manager • Resolve data issues related to the replicated data from the authoritative source Qualifications Required Skills • Bachelors and nine (9) years or more experience; Masters and seven (7) years or more experience • Three or more years of experience mining data as a data analyst • Proven analytics skills, including mining, evaluation, and visualization • Receives assignments in the form of objectives and establishes goals to meet objectives • Provides guidance to team members to achieve goals in accordance with established policies • Establishes and recommends changes to policies, which affect subordinate organization(s) • Technical writing experience in relevant areas, including queries, reports, and presentations • Strong PL/SQL skills, primarily the ability to read complex code and understand its intent and functionality • Ability to build and understand complex Oracle (or other relational database) queries • Aptitude for learning analytics, reporting, and data extraction tools and techniques • Strong attention to detail and accuracy • Excellent analytical and organizational skills • Excellent oral and written communication skills • Ability to develop, document, and ensure adherence to technical standards • Ability to work independently and as a team member in a fast-paced development process • Must be self-motivated, detail-oriented, and able to sustain your own assigned project work in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities • Must be able to communicate effectively and confidently with team members and management Desired Skills • Experience working with the VA • Experience working Agile Scrum development • Experience with JIRA

Target salary range: $125,001 - $135,000. The estimate displayed represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors.
