Syms Strategic Group (SSG) is seeking a talented Database Architect Department: Veterans Affairs Location: On-site, Washington, DC Type: Full Time Min. Experience: Experienced Security Clearance Level: Public Trust (MBI) Salary Range: $118,737 - $140,000 Military Veterans are highly encouraged to apply! Essential Duties and Responsibilities This is an on-site, customer facing position in downtown Washington DC supporting a federal government client. Remote work is not available.

Design and implement scalable and secure database solutions based on organizational requirements.

Evaluate and recommend database technologies and tools to meet business goals and objectives.

Develop and maintain data models to represent the organization’s information architecture.

Ensure data integrity, consistency, and normalization across databases.

Monitor and optimize database performance to ensure optimal responsiveness and efficiency.

Identify and address bottlenecks, database tuning, and optimization opportunities.

Implement and enforce data security policies to safeguard sensitive information.

Ensure compliance with industry regulations and standards related to data management.

Collaborate with software developers, system administrators, and other stakeholders to integrate database systems with applications.

Provide technical guidance and support to the development team on database-related issues.

Develop and maintain backup and recovery strategies to prevent data loss.

Develop, implement, and test disaster recovery procedures for databases.

Where appropriate, provide recommendations for improvements and alternative solutions as part of an analysis of alternatives (AOA), with the goal of improving the stability, reliability, and availability of the Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW).

Collaborate with team to generate technical documentation including development planning, technical architecture, software testing, and deployment process.

Participate in the development and execution of Change Management and Release Management Plans.

As needed, make internal and systematic changes to technical aspects as part of change management processes.

Required Skills and Experience

Perform multiple engineering-related tasks in various assignments within the project and firm.

Broad knowledge of engineering procedures.

Strong technical skills and background.

A knack for learning new technologies.

A blend of good problem-solving and innovation.

Professional Certifications n/a

Years of Professional Experience Two (2) years of experience architecting enterprise wide database solutions

Desired experience Prior experience in a federal data warehouse and understanding of government procedures and regulations

Formal Education Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or related scientific/technical discipline or 10 years of additional relevant experience may be substituted for education

Citizenship Requirement U.S. Citizenship required for this specific opportunity

Security Clearance Requirements Must possess or qualify for a Public Trust (MBI)
