Ardent is seeking a

Geospatial Director to join the Chief Technology Officer (CTO) team to support growth and the CTO’s innovation and technology agenda.

Ardent’s workforce is

fully remote and our main customer and staff home base is in the Washington, D.C. Metro area. Due to our

remote nature, the candidate can be located anywhere in the mainland United States. The

Geospatial Director will be expected to participate and support in-person team events and meet with customers at government facilities as needed but will otherwise work from home. Travel expenses for mandatory team events and customer meetings will be covered.

Position Description:

The Geospatial Director reporting directly to the CTO will work closely with our CTO and Growth teams to engineer and document best-in-class technical approaches and solutions in support of Ardent’s business development activities, including RFP/RFQ and RFI responses. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading the development of geospatial solutions end-to-end, including identifying and justifying tools selection, building architectures, designing an overall approach and testing strategy, and leading the deployment approach of the solutions. These geospatial solutions will be written, diagrammed, and submitted in support of RFP/RFQ and RFI responses to assist Ardent in winning new geospatial- or data-focused work. Given the strong focus on proposal writing, the candidate will be expected to lead and write complete technical volumes and must be comfortable and experienced with Federal proposal writing. Additionally, the candidate is expected to lead and build prototypes of viable solutions to Federal challenges in the GIS space and work with the CTO to scale these prototypes into full-scale Ardent offerings and intellectual property. The successful candidate will be an institutional leader in geospatial and considered the geospatial lead for all of Ardent. Being an institutional leader means providing thought leadership across the company, writing and releasing whitepapers on research and interesting topics in GIS, owning and maintaining relationships with geospatial partners and vendors, and participating and speaking at geospatial conferences. This candidate is expected to support client discussions and engagements as needed to solution and brainstorm with customers, participate or lead client demonstrations, and provide geospatial expertise and recommendations to our customers. This role is completely growth focused, so the candidate is expected to be an active participant and be #AllIn with our growth agenda.

Responsibilities:
  • Effectively communicate technical geospatial concepts to a diverse group of stakeholders including Ardent senior leadership, technical and non-technical customers, and project teams.
  • Lead and write complete technical volumes for geospatial- or data-focused proposals. This includes designing and documenting the entire technical solution, designing graphics (with support from a graphic designer) to demonstrate architectures and components of the solution, ensuring proposals are meeting the RFP/RFQ requirements and are compliant, and working with the proposal team on reviews and edits to ensure the proposal content is high quality and ready for submission.
  • Analyze our customer challenges and demand signals and develop geospatial technical solutions that alleviate or improve these challenges. Work closely with our Senior Director of Technology and CTO to vet and integrate these solutions into existing offerings as needed.
  • Champion geospatial software such as ArcGIS, other Esri capabilities, and open source solutions throughout the organization and business development deliverables.
  • Through the perspective of geospatial leadership and expertise, support business development capture by working closely with our Growth leaders to evaluate new geospatial or data opportunities, evaluate existing pipeline opportunities, support customer discussions, and develop slides, 1-pagers, or materials in support of client briefs and discussions.

Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in geography, GIS, computer science, mathematics, engineering, or relevant field.
  • 8 years of experience designing and implementing geospatial solutions supporting the Federal Government.
  • Demonstrated and proven experience writing Federal technical proposal responses
  • A deep understanding of common Agile software development practices including Scrum and Kanban
  • Proactive problem solver with the ability to work autonomously
  • Executive written and verbal communications skills
  • Must possess and apply expertise across multiple complex work assignments which are broad in nature, requiring originality and innovation in determining how to accomplish tasks.
  • Ability to apply comprehensive geospatial knowledge across key deliverables and high impact assignments.
Due to the nature of the work we support, all candidates in consideration for this role must be U.S. Citizens willing to undergo the government issued background investigation process.
