The CELA Compliance & Ethics (C&E) organization plays a key role in supporting Microsoft’s mission by fostering a culture of compliance, ethics, and trust. C&E’s work spans world-class counseling, proactive risk mitigation, investigations, data analytics, and training + culture. The Proactive Risk Engagement (PRE) team within C&E brings together legal professionals, compliance experts, and data analysts to put compliance on a proactive footing. We work across the company to understand the root cause, scope, and impact of critical risks; we design and implement resilient controls and monitoring systems; we support investigations with data intelligence and build predictive risk models; and we advise on the design and execution of sales channels, incentive programs, and complex transactions. We take a cross-disciplinary, collaborative approach to this work. We are looking for a like-minded legal professional to join our Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA) third-party compliance, counseling, and proactive risk assessment practice in the role of Proactive Risk Engagement Principal Corporate Counsel, Compliance and Ethics.Microsoft’s mission is to empower every person and every organization on the planet to achieve more. Deliver actionable FCPA guidance to business leaders, sales teams, lawyers, and control owners.

Coordinate third party compliance engagements, proactive risk assessments, and enhancements to controls and monitoring capabilities.

Meet with third parties to evaluate and address identified risk areas and drive more effective compliance programs.

Partner with PRE’s analytics team and C&E’s investigation community to assess emerging risks and design & implement mitigation measures.

Build strategic relationships within the Americas region and in corporate functions to expand our global proactive compliance practice, with a focus on addressing significant regional risks.

Direct outside counsel to support PRE’s work.

Juris Doctorate Degree or Equivalent International Degree

OR Completion of a Legal Apprenticeship.

Active license to practice law in a jurisdiction and capable of meeting admission requirements in relevant jurisdiction.

5+ years experience as a practicing attorney

OR equivalent practice of law.

Experience dealing with compliance issues involving multinational companies or other large organizations.

Additional or Preferred Qualifications

Business level fluency to read, write and speak Spanish

Knowledge of the U.S. Foreign Corrupt Practices Act and other corruption law-related risks and preventative mitigation.

Experience effectively manage a portfolio of projects and activities across multiple business areas, compliance functions, and geographies.

Experience building and maintaining collaborative relationships across disciplines and seniority levels.

Legal Counsel IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $124,800 - $222,000 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $159,000 - $238,600 per year.Certain roles may be eligible for benefits and other compensation.
