Overview To assist with planning, directing and managing the multi-function operations of the Mortgage Underwriting branch, to ensure compliance with applicable federal and state laws, rules, regulations, and NFCU policies and procedures. Ensure consistent risk analysis is applied to all first mortgage and equity loans to ensure complete, accurate loans are produced and document integrity is maintained. Evaluate and adjust branch work quality, staff performance, systems, processes and procedures to meet goals. Manage daily activities of professional employees and/or supervisors. Support senior management in developing and executing strategic plans. Act as Manager in the incumbent's absence.Responsibilities

Assist with developing branch strategy, establishing priorities and setting goals; evaluate and implement standards to ensure alignment with department/organizational objectives

Assist with managing and directing operations to ensure targets, service level agreements and corporate objectives are met

Monitor work environment and direct allocation of resources to ensure adequate staffing to meet production and member service standards

Assist with conducting benchmarking and trend analysis to drive continuous improvement and elevate service performance, increase member experience quality, generate revenue, minimize financial risk, and maintain high operational efficiency

Monitor daily production reports and staff work volume; adjust assignments to meet fluctuating workload

Review and analyze reports and statistics summarizing status of operations to ensure timeliness and compliance of work produced

Investigate escalated member inquiries/complaints and take appropriate action

Provide guidance and direction to supervisors regarding strategic projects, complex member related matters and operational issues; authorize appropriate solutions to resolve issues

Maintain thorough knowledge of and ensure compliance with applicable federal and state laws, rules, regulations and NFCU policies and procedures

Monitor and analyze changes to applicable federal and state laws, rules and regulations; assist with developing action plans for implementation/dissemination and coordinating changes with affected branches/divisions

Perform quality control audits to ensure compliance with applicable federal and state laws, rules, regulations, and NFCU policies and procedures

Manage projects and initiatives to support production and process improvements to maximize automated systems usage within the branch

Collaborate with other business units to analyze and improve procedures and resolve problems

Ensure business unit awareness of NFCU products, services, policies and procedures

Assist with developing and implementing change management solutions, by identifying and resolving operational and performance gaps and obstacles

Develop and implement new/updated policies, procedures, goals and priorities for the branch as necessitated by demands, changing conditions, volume and/or management request

Provide management with reports and comparative analyses; identify trends, and recommend changes

Assist with overseeing training and development programs for staff; provide training to staff; assist with evaluating training programs to ascertain effectiveness

Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Advanced knowledge of applicable federal and state laws, rules and regulations governing real estate underwriting and mortgages

Advanced knowledge of first mortgage and equity loan products including fixed and adjustable rate programs, closed and open end loan programs, portfolio and agency products

Advanced knowledge of financial industry trends, lending practices, products and services, technology, and regulations

Significant progressively responsible experience leading and managing a mortgage underwriting operation, preferably in a large financial institution

Advanced knowledge of data querying, reporting, forecasting, analysis and operations research, including statistical methods and modeling

Significant experience in supervising, leading and mentoring employees on site, and in remote locations

Significant experience in managing cross-functional, multi-dimensional teams and projects of the highest complexity which have business risk and impact

Advanced analytical thinking skills to include summarizing information and clearly identifying key elements, patterns, results or relationships

Advanced verbal and written communication skills

Advanced database, word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation software skills

Advanced research, analytical, and problem solving skills

Advanced skill to influence, negotiate and persuade to reach agreeable exchange and positive outcomes

Advanced organizational, planning, and time management skills

Advanced skill building effective relationships through rapport, trust, diplomacy and tact

Advanced skill interpreting, applying and explaining written and oral regulations, instructions, products and procedures

Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Finance, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
