Job Description: Title and Description:
The Database Administrator ensures the core system Oracle & Postgres databases are available in a 24x7x365 environment for day to day operations, as well as provides database reporting and programming services to other departments.
This position is in the IT Infrastructure department and reports to the Director of IT. Additionally, this position is salary-based and carries an exempt status.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Provides production support and development services to internal departments (database changes, queries, optimizations)
Improve operational efficiencies of database schema, settings, SQL queries, backup/recovery processes, and disaster recovery procedures
Monitors the core production system services for proper disk and CPU utilization, and proper day to day operations of internal applications, maintaining up time
Research new products and upgrades that maximize the efficiency and scalability of the database system
Respond to and document departmental support issues and requests
Create, maintain, and improve the database access code for system applications and web interfaces in response to departmental demands
Maintain development, test, and UAT database systems and provide data maintenance services and refresh as necessary
Document database design, integration processes, and disaster recovery processes
Performance tuning and optimization
Other duties and responsibilities as assigned by management
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
8+ years experience as Oracle Database Administrator in a high transaction environment
4+ years experience with Postgres Databases
Excellent communication skills and emotional intelligence
Excellent organizational skills, with ability to work well under deadline pressure and to successfully meet those deadlines, and ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously
Solid understanding of relational database management systems, SQL queries, and table schema design; working knowledge of PL/SQL, Linux, and Java
Understanding of networking, firewalls, security procedures, and audit requirements in relation to database systems
Experience with performance tuning, partition, database design, data warehouse, and encryption
Working knowledge of storage in relation to database
Proven ability to work independently as well as part of a team
