Description: This position performs professional work in the Onsite Sewage Program under 381.0065 FS

Responsibilities: The position serves as the Program’s research coordinator and provides technical assistance regarding onsite sewage issues to department staff, county health departments and other program stakeholders.

This position, through coordinating research and providing oversight over the implementation of the statewide Onsite Sewage Program, plays a critical role in helping ensure that Florida’s water resources and public health are protected.

Pay:

$51,320.27 - $63,000.00/annually (Commensurate with experience)

Your Specific Responsibilities:

Manages, coordinates and conducts Onsite Sewage-related research, including directing and conducting fieldwork and managing contracts as needed. Compiles and analyzes data, writes and reviews research reports.

Consults and provides technical assistance to department staff and county health departments for the review of engineered and advanced onsite sewage treatment and disposal systems such as Performance-Based Treatment Systems (PBTS) and Low Pressure Dosed Systems (LPDS). Reviews applications for innovative system permits and product and component approvals.

Provides technical assistance and training in the Onsite Sewage Program to department staff, county health departments, industry, and the general public, and fulfills information requests. Participates in the development and implementation of applicable laws, rules, policies or procedures concerning onsite sewage disposal systems.

Represents the Department at local, regional, state, and national meetings. Serves as department witness in legal and administrative proceedings.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge of the terminology, principles, and analytical techniques of the physical or natural sciences.

Ability to collect, evaluate, analyze, and interpret scientific or technical data.

Ability to understand and apply applicable rules, regulations, policies, and procedures relating to environmental programs.

Required Qualifications: Valid Driver License. Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a degree in a physical or biological science, a related field of engineering (such as civil or environmental), environmental science or environmental health, and two years of verifiable related experience or any combination of post-secondary education or verifiable related experience, as described above, for a total of six years.

Preferred Qualifications:

Advanced degree (Masters level or higher).

Experience with environmental sampling and conducting research.

Experience with data analysis and interpretation.

Knowledge of onsite sewage treatment systems or wastewater treatment.

Knowledge of onsite sewage treatment system rules in Florida.

Field experience with onsite sewage treatment systems.

Current Environmental Health Professional certification in the area of Onsite Sewage.

Other Job Related Requirements for this position:

Certified Environmental Health Professional in the area of Onsite Sewage or a Registered Sanitarian in accordance with s. 381.0101 Florida Statutes within six months of employment.
