JOB DUTIES: This is a professional position responsible for technical planning in the Florida Forest Service’s Geographic Information System (GIS) program, wide-area or comparable distributed computer systems network and related computer activities. Performs analysis of user needs and translates these into GIS products and services. Is a strong communicator who can listen to user requests and requirements and translate them into methods and procedures for generating GIS products associated with natural resource management and wildland fire preparedness and response. Develops, manages, and maintains GIS system hardware, software, and data conforming to department standards and procedures. Assists in the distribution of GIS data and tools to enhance the efficiency of Forestry programs. Provides automation of GIS tasks through the creation of GIS programming scripts or programs that conform to the Department’s Information System Design Methodology (ISDM). Assists with end-user training, assistance, and documentation in the use of GIS and Global Positioning Systems (GPS). Develops hardware configuration plans for distributed processing systems. Prepares documentation of programs, systems design, flowcharts, and metadata. Provides technical assistance and consultation in remote sensing, geographic information systems, and the integration, retrieval, and use of data associated with management of the Districts, Centers, and Bureaus.
