This includes communicating with, motivating, training, and evaluating employees in addition to planning and directing employees’ work. The incumbent has the authority to hire, transfer, suspend, lay off, recall, promote, discharge, assign, reward, or discipline subordinate employees or effectively recommend such action. The incumbent will also be required to develop performance expectations, meet with staff regularly to discuss performance, complete performance reviews, maintain vacation and work schedules, ensuring proper coverage, and complete timesheets. This individual will be responsible for all supervisory duties including, but not limited to, hiring and selection, developing performance plans, conducting performance appraisals, planning, and directing their work, approving leave, and taking disciplinary action as appropriate. As WIC Breastfeeding Coordinator: Assesses and counsels clients with breastfeeding problems. Develops care plans. Maintains warm line for calls from WIC clients and referrals from WIC staff and area health care professionals. Coordinates with other nutrition and WIC services and with area hospitals. Responsible for implementing new and improved methods to positively impact initiation and duration of breastfeeding among our clients. Responsible for continued collaboration with pediatric, OB, and breastfeeding partners to develop systems changes on the community level that will lead to improved breastfeeding statistics. Supervises Breast Feeding coordinators and peer counselors. This includes but is not limited to hiring, recruitment, discipline, performance management, approval of time sheets and leave requests. Develops plan for, coordinates and supervises electric breast pump loan program for high-risk and working mothers. Responsible for inventory and accountability of all breastfeeding equipment including electric breast pumps. Actively assists staff in triaging pump loans and follow up of high risk clients and working breastfeeding mothers. Trains WIC staff in logistical use of FL-WiSE pump inventory system and assures that WIC staff follows breastfeeding equipment guidelines found in WIC manual DHM 150-24. Responsible for managing the peer counselors for the WIC Breastfeeding Peer Counseling grant and is instrumental in the development of policies, procedures and strategies to ensure program delivery meets intended objectives. Responsible to ensuring objectives are implemented that are specific, measurable, achievable, reasonable, and time sensitive. Develops and implements biennial breastfeeding nutrition education plan with goals and objectives. Evaluates progress toward meeting goal by collecting and analyzing data to identify trends that impact breastfeeding rates. Summarizes and analyzes activities and services at regular intervals. Maintains records and prepares reports as required. Serves as the agency’s breastfeeding liaison. Provides information, technical assistance, and referrals to community agencies, facilities and professionals whose clients are served by WIC. Participates in community breastfeeding activities. Develops resources and referral mechanisms. Provides continuing education and consultation for WIC staff. Previews and recommends references and resources for staff. Represents WIC as the breastfeeding consultant on breastfeeding issues. Reviews breastfeeding promotion/education materials and breastfeeding supplies for technical and cultural appropriateness and assures appropriateness for WIC staff use. Directly encourages, trains and support nutrition, technical and clerical staff with breastfeeding education. Attends monthly staff meetings. Participates in Florida WIC breastfeeding coordinator’s conference calls and trainings. Performs other duties as required Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Has breastfed at least one baby (does not have to be currently breastfeeding). Is enthusiastic about breastfeeding and wants to help other mothers enjoy a positive experience. Has a telephone and is willing to make phone calls from home. Has reliable transportation. Qualifications: Minimum – High School Diploma. Valid Florida Driver’s License. Supervisory experience. Preferred – IBCLC. Ability to plan, organize, manage time, meet deadlines, and work independently.
