Overview To provide for the operation, maintenance, repair and installation of the specialized Life Safety systems at Navy Federal Credit Union. This position is physical and requires a certain degree of agility to bend, reach, stoop, climb and work in uncomfortable positions. Work requires lifting and carrying moderately heavy materials and equipment up to 50 pounds. Work may be performed inside or outside. Work may be dirty, dusty, greasy, or noisy. This is an essential position requiring the incumbent to be called to work in the event of an emergency.Responsibilities
Inspects, analyzes and determines best way to maintain, repair or install systems and cables for proper operation to minimize false alarms
Cable installation includes: placement, termination, testing, labeling and documentation
Proficient with Electrical system voltages: 28-48 volt AC/DC, 120, 277-480 volt AC
Research system problems or maintenance needs: refers to operation, maintenance and repair manuals, and system schematics; troubleshooting and diagnosing malfunctions or problems; and disassembling affected devices
Assist with the scheduling and supervise Life Safety inspections required by local and state authorities that include FM 200 systems, Pre-Action systems, Kitchen Hood suppression systems, Dry and Wet piping systems, pumps and other associated components and devices
Analyze fire alarm circuits to determine the ability to add or delete devices during remodeling and determine the best way to proceed with modifications
Analyze trouble conditions on the fire alarm system and perform repairs to return the system to normal condition. Also, ensure repairs comply with NFPA standards and manufacturers recommendations
Recommends specifications to the supervisor for upgrades/changes to improve system performance
Participates in the procurement of equipment
Assists with the design of new or upgraded Life Safety Systems and ensure that all new construction and remodeling projects comply with local codes
Monitors the corresponding States adoption of NFPA standards to ensure that Navy Federal maintains its Life Safety Systems in compliance with corresponding States codes
Manage, schedule and supervise Life Safety Systems inspections required by corresponding States codes
Assist with establishing budgets that encompasses Life Safety Systems inspections, repairs along with the procurement of equipment and tools
Researches, documents and observes compliance with Navy Federal, local, state and federal regulatory guidelines pertaining to electrical systems
Updates and maintains system diagrams
Maintains knowledge of electrical, fire, and building codes, and EPA, ADA and OSHA laws and regulations
Coordinates with the Supervisor to develop preventive maintenance schedules
Assists supervisor with in-house and contracted Life Safety Systems projects
Provides technical assistance and guidance to personnel within the Facility Management, Physical Security, Branch, and Information Services Division on Life Safety Systems operation
Assists in developing contract specifications and reviewing contractual undertakings including the design development and review of technical documentation/blueprints for technical accuracy, constructability, and compatibility with existing systems and equipment
Performs the major duties of the Supervisor in the absence of the incumbent
Performs other related duties as assigned or appropriate
Qualifications
Working knowledge of electronics
Minimum of 2 years of documented experience in installing and/or maintaining commercial fire alarm systems
Must be familiar with NFPA standards and determine how they apply to the fire alarm systems at the facility associated with the hire
Knowledge of the tools, mathematics, codes, materials and safety regulations associated with the electrical trade
Ability to read and interpret work schedules and directions, blueprints, diagrams, engineering drawings and manufacture manuals
Ability to work independently and as a team member to gain the cooperation of others
Must possess valid driver's license of corresponding state of hire
Must be able to lift and carry 50 pounds
Must posses a working knowledge of Microsoft Office
Advanced knowledge of Navy Federal’s functions, philosophy, operations and organizational objectives
Successful completion of the Apprenticeship Program for electricians or formal training equivalent
Extensive commercial electrical maintenance experience
Effective interpersonal and verbal communication skills
NICET level 1 or 2 fire alarm certification or equivalent experience
Journeyman license for electricians
High school diploma or GED equivalent
