SHIFT: Nights (rotating weekends)SCHEDULE: Full-time

HCA Florida Fort Walton-Destin Hospital is a 267-bed top-performing quality hospital with over 200 of the most highly respected and qualified physicians in the area. It is the only acute care hospital in the Tri-County area that offers open heart surgery, an Advanced Primary Stroke Center accredited by the Joint Commission and an Accredited Chest Pain Center. An affiliate of the UAB Cancer Community Network, Fort Walton offers a Cancer Care Center that is accredited by the Commission on Cancer. Fort Walton Beach Medical Center also provides advanced care for critically ill patients, including cardiovascular and trauma injury care, and emergency services, including a main ER, Pediatric ER and Destin ER. Fort Walton Beach Medical Center is in partnership with Twin Cities Hospital, located in Niceville. We are also the parent company of the Rehabilitation Institute, both located in Destin.

POSITION SUMMARY: Perform patient care and cardiac monitoring duties, in accordance with the philosophy, goals and objectives of FWBMC.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Participate in the unit based Quality Improvement process.
  2. Demonstrates knowledge and respect of patient rights to privacy and protection of patient confidentiality.
  3. Organizes and communicates patient care activities to the patient and to the Registered Nurse.
  4. Monitors and documents information regarding patient activities, as directed by the Registered Nurse.
  5. Communicates, interacts and participates in team work on the unit.
  6. Promotes and displays a positive customer oriented demeanor to patients, visitors staff and physicians.
  7. Demonstrates an understanding and is proficient in the use of a computer and office equipment.
  8. Maintains the unit in optimal operating condition by ordering supplies, cleaning general work stations and stocking of supplies.
  9. Ability to perform cardiac rhythm monitoring and the reports changes to RN appropriately.
  10. Actively seeks ways to control costs without compromising patient safety, qualify of care or the services delivered.
  11. Demonstrates knowledge of the occurrence reporting system. Uses system to report potential patient safety issues.
  12. Follows established guidelines for reporting a significant medical error or unanticipated outcome in the patient’s care which results in patient harm.
  13. Attends in-service presentations and completes all mandatory education requirements.
  14. Uses Performance Improvement Plan to improve patient safety.
  15. Regular, Punctual and dependable attendance.
  16. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

EDUCATION REQUIRED AND/OR PREFERRED:

  • BASIC ARRTHYMIA COURSE AND PASS EXAM

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION:

  • BLS – AHA Healthcare Provider required upon hire

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED OR PREFERRED:

  • KNOWLEDGE OF CARDIAC RHYTHMS

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES:

  • Read and writes Basic English
  • Knowledge of body substance isolation
  • Ability to use a computer, typewriter and calculator
  • Ability to move in excess of 50 pounds, with assistance from other staff (medium work)
  • Ability to listen, empathize and respond to patient, family, internal and external partners needs
