The Navy NSST program is looking for a

Systems Engineer Sr. with a background in complex systems environments to help lead personnel on-site at the

Orlando facility. The NSST is a computerized bridge simulator that allows Sailors to practice ship handling, navigation, and visual information skills in a controlled environment.
  • Interfaces with Chief Engineer to coordinate and manage Systems Engineering resources
  • Knowledge of simulation systems with general maritime knowledge and understanding of maritime systems.
  • Verification and validation of system designs, schematics, drawings, etc.
  • Information and networked systems technology expertise with a strong windows background.
  • Ability to diagnose and troubleshoot standard computational systems. I/O signals, video signals.
  • Acts as advisor to subordinates to meet schedules and/or resolve technical problems in-plant and on-site
  • Experience managing people in a technical environment

The position resides in Orlando, FL, but you will travel to:
  • Yokosuka and Sasebo, Japan
  • Pearl Harbor, Honolulu, Hawaii
  • ROTA, Spain

Basic Qualifications:
  • BS degree; additional years of experience may be considered in lieu of degree
  • 5+ years of experience with systems engineering programs
  • Experience managing people, schedules and deliverables in a technical environment
  • DoD program experience a plus
  • US citizenship; must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret clearance.
  • Availability to travel 30% of the time including OCONUS

What is the mission of the program? The Navigational, Seamanship, and Shiphandling trainer (NSST) program is to deliver various simulators. These simulators will be used to train sailors on various mission objectives like how to navigate at various ports around the world, effectively communicate as a team in events and scenarios, and get familiar with controls and screens

What are the top three skillsets the candidate should have? (1) Networking familiarity (switch (juniper, cisco, aruba, etc) configurations and wiring), (2) Software familiarity (windows server, secure host baseline (SHB) for example), (3) Willing to learn/personable (4) A lot of on the job training with the team meaning needing effective communication and adapt to proprietary software and unique configurations, (5) A lot of travel and interface with craft employees to direct work and fixes found.
