HCA Florida Fort Walton-Destin Hospital is a 267-bed top-performing quality hospital with over 200 of the most highly respected and qualified physicians in the area. It is the only acute care hospital in the Tri-County area that offers open heart surgery, an Advanced Primary Stroke Center accredited by the Joint Commission and an Accredited Chest Pain Center. An affiliate of the UAB Cancer Community Network, HCA Florida Fort Walton-Destin Hospital offers a Cancer Care Center that is accredited by the Commission on Cancer. HCA Florida Fort Walton-Destin Hospital also provides advanced care for critically ill patients, including cardiovascular and trauma injury care, and emergency services, including a main ER, Pediatric ER and Destin ER. HCA Florida Fort Walton-Destin Hospital is in partnership with HCA Florida Twin Cities Hospital, located in Niceville. We are also the parent company of the Rehabilitation Institutelocated in Destin.

POSITION SUMMARY:

Under general supervision provides quality care to patients under the direction of a RN, in accordance with the philosophy, goals and objectives of FWBMC.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Demonstrates knowledge and application of patient transport, patient preparation and Perioperative Services equipment.
2. Participates in unit based Quality Improvement process.
3. Practices, endorses and provides customer service skills to patients, visitors, physicians and staff.
4. Demonstrates knowledge and respect of patient rights to privacy and protection of patient confidentiality.
5. Organizes and communicates patient care activities to the patient and to the Registered Nurse.
6. Actively seeks ways to control costs without compromising patient safety, qualify of care or the services delivered.
7. Demonstrates knowledge of the occurrence reporting system. Uses system to report potential patient safety issues.
8. Follows established guidelines for reporting a significant medical error or unanticipated outcome in the patient’s care which results in patient harm.
9. Attends in-service presentations and completes all mandatory education requirements.
10. Uses Performance Improvement Plan to improve patient safety.
11. Regular, Punctual and dependable attendance.
12. May have access to the POS room or designated areas to transport, assemble, and stock (inventory) of non scheduled drugs and biologicals to include but not limited to fluids, sterile water, normal saline, and irrigations.
13. Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION REQUIRED AND/OR PREFERRED:

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION:

• BCLS-AHA Healthcare Provider certification required at the time of hire

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED OR PREFERRED:

• Experience preferred

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES:

• Reads and writes Basic English; able to follow verbal and written instructions
• Knowledge of body substance isolation
• Ability to listen, empathize and respond to patient, family, and partners needs
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, Perioperative Services personnel, other nursing and hospital staff
• Willing to work on rotating shifts
