Additionally, when duties and responsibilities of this job change, this job description will be reviewed and updated, subject to changes and business necessity.Custom Job Purpose:This position exists to provide necessary physical therapy related services so that eligible students have access to the education programs and the school environment to prepare them for further education, employment and independent living.Essential Functions of this JobEvaluates, observes and consults on each child referred for therapy. Formulates a treatment plan for eligible ESE /504 and MTSS students and assists teams regarding goals and objectives. Promotes the student's independence in self-care tasks and locomotion. Recommends equipment and assistive devices appropriate for the student's needs. Increases the student's functioning through the use of adaptive and assistive devices. Facilitates the student's development and enhances learning. Decreases the effect of the handicapping condition upon the student's ability to function in the classroom/school setting. May supervise a Licensed Physical Therapist Assistant (LPTA) or an aide.Must be able to perform physical tasks as set forth in the Physical Environment section of this document.File and retain all documantation related to all services provided to students including, but not limited to, any insurance or Medicaid claims.Non-Essential Functions of this JobPerforms other duties as required.Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:Knowledge of required documentation or student progress report procedures. Ability to plan and conduct inservice activities. Ability to collaborate with the Occupational Therapist, Rehabilitation Nurse, and other educational team members to prepare and implement Individual Educational Plans. Ability to consult with teachers, school staff and parents regarding the influence of specific deficits on the students' classroom and school environment. Bilingual/biliterate preferred.Education, Experience and/or Certification/License RequirementsGraduation from a physical therapy school approved by the Council on Medical Education of the American Medical Association in collaboration with the American Physical Therapy Association. Current Physical Therapist Licensure by the State of Florida.Work Context:Requires sitting, standing, walking and moving about to coordinate work. Requires the use of alternative communication systems, such as electronic mail, telephones and computers. Requires coordination of work tasks to establish priorities, set goals and meet deadlines. Requires face-to-face discussions and contact with individuals and/or teams. Requires work with students, internal and external contacts, and with the public.Physical Environment:Requires working indoors in environmentally controlled conditions.
