HCA Florida Fort Walton-Destin Hospital, located on Florida's Emerald Coast, seeks a Charge RN to join our Outpatient Surgery Team!

POSITION SUMMARY:

This role will provide professional nursing care to patients utilizing the nursing process. Charge RN will collaborate with other members of the health care delivery team including physicians, to deliver quality health care.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Facilitates department flow by making assignments and enhances communication with all members of the healthcare team
  2. Makes patient care assignments according to staff capabilities and patient needs and makes alterations in nursing assignments as necessary.
  3. Responsible for the closing of the department in the evening to ensure smooth throughput for department opening the following day
  4. Focuses on increasing patient satisfaction by enhancing throughput, hourly rounds, utilizing tactics in the ICARE model and holding subordinates accountable to the same standard
  5. Manages staff time effectively by assigning meal breaks and unit tasks
  6. Establishes communication and rapport with physicians.
  7. Resolves problems on a shift-to-shift basis with appropriate documentation and follow-up
  8. Communicates all unusual situations and problems up the chain of communication
  9. Initiates incidents reports and Code Red audit forms as needed during their shift
  10. Assists in orientation of new employees
  11. Documents and reports appropriate and inappropriate employee behaviors using appropriate chain of command
  12. Assists in the education and enforcement of facility policies and Core Measure Initiatives
  13. Demonstrates an advanced level of clinical skills and the ability to support others to achieve the delivery of quality care
  14. Practices, develops and endorses customer service skills in relationships with internal and external customers
  15. Serves as the patient and family advocate with respect to the patient’s rights
  16. Assists in the protection of PHI and complies with HIPPA regulations
  17. Plans and implements age appropriate patient care and teaching based on a total assessment
  18. Evaluates and documents patient response; monitors and recognizes changes in physiological and psychosocial status; takes appropriate action based on assessment of the patient
  19. Regular, punctual and dependable attendance
  20. Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

EDUCATION REQUIRED AND/OR PREFERRED:

  • Associates Degree or Diploma in Nursing required
  • BSN or MSN is preferred

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION:

  • Current FL RN license required or appropriate compact licensure. If compact license held, active FL RN license required within 90 days of hire.
  • BCLS - AHA Healthcare Provider certification required at time of hire
  • ACLS – required within 90 days of hire
  • PALS – required within 90 days of hire

  • CAPA (Certified Ambulatory Perianesthesia Nurse) preferred
  • AAANC (American Academy of Ambulatory Care Nurses) preferred

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED OR PREFERRED:

  • A minimum of 3 years of experience required

  • Tactful communication skills and the ability to listen, empathize and respond to patient, family, internal and external partners needs
  • Supervision, delegation, conflict management and team building skills.
  • Flexible and resourceful and able to make decisions quickly
  • Reads and writes Basic English with the basic skills necessary to transcribe physician’s orders
  • Basic computer skills
