The RN supports professional nursing practice across practice settings and across the continuum of care to meet the needs of the patient and family. The RN will function within the Mayo Clinic Nursing Professional Practice Model, which includes accountability for planning, implementing, evaluating and communicating all phases of nursing care for assigned patients. The ANA Nursing: Scope and Standards of Practice provide a basis for the practice of the RN. The RN provides leadership through activities such as preceptor role, informal and formal leadership roles, and quality improvement efforts. The RN delegates patient care according to skill level, experience, patient acuity, fiscal accountability and availability of resources. The RN possesses excellent communication skills; is skillful in mentoring and teaching; and may participate on committees or projects. RNs are preferred to have specialized knowledge and skills related to a wide variety of research protocols in a variety of specialties. Understands and advocates for human subject rights.This is a bedside research RN position. This RN will be trained to perform lumbar punctures in our Integrated Clinical Studies Unit. This position will also be trained on various clinical trials activities related to neurology. There is also a possibility to be cross trained for chemotherapy and other first in human or hazardous medications.QualificationsGraduate of an accredited baccalaureate nursing program, as recognized by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN), Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE), National League for Nursing Commission for Nursing Education Accreditation (NLN CNEA).Minimum of two years previous RN experience in ambulatory and/or acute care settings preferred. Chemo/Biotherapy experience preferred. Works flexible hours Monday through Friday, 10hr shifts. Collects, compares, sorts, and prioritizes information to be used in the decision-making process for groups of patients and employees. Adapts to unpredictable situations within the patient care and/or research setting. Good communication and interpersonal skills. Current RN license by applicable state requirements. Maintains Basic Life Support (BLS) competency. Additional specialty certification/training as required by the work area.Neurology bedside nursing strongly preferred, ICU/ER experience preferred.
