Maxar is looking to add an experienced Supervisor, Software Engineering to lead one of our Development teams. The role is based around one of our primary company sites either in Denver, CO, Herndon, VA, or Melbourne, FL with the opportunities for remote work.

We have an amazingly talented & energetic software development team comprised of about 25 engineers. We are looking for strong leader who can provide direct mentorship for a new team and help to elevate the quality of our work.

As a manager in the Development group, you will work alongside your peerswho lead our Ingest, Infrastructure, and Access team-to design and create common data access services. These services will be deployed in many ecosystems to support delivery of Geospatial Intelligence products for our customers.

What will you be doing?
  • Define the skill sets required for a successful development team, work with management and talent acquisition to curate a team with those skills, and hold the team accountable for success.
  • Hold regular review meetings with team members in order to establish career objectives and measure progress.
  • Act as a conduit of information from the division and broader company to help the team understand direction or the impacts of their success.
  • Establish a team that will create and design solutions for end-to-end customer facing problems; work with the team to understand the execution of those solutions through our Release Trains and Solutions Architecture.
  • Incorporate customer feedback into software products - ensure the team has a deep understanding and empathy for our user's needs.
  • Work with external (or curate internal) customer experience teams in order to set requirements for how users interact with the team's output.
  • Work with external (or curate internal) technical excellence resources in order to set requirements for robust software built through a lean agile lifecycle.
  • Provide leadership to the team to help define best practices and professional excellence; coaching team members in real-time to provide constructive feedback on outcomes.
  • We work in very Lean Agile environment; you will collaborate with our geographically dispersed teams primarily via Zoom, Slack, GitLab, and shared Jira spaces.

Minimum Requirements:
  • Must be U.S. citizen and be willing and able to obtain a TS/SCI security clearance with CI Polygraph.
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Systems Engineering, or related STEM field OR a degree in a management field with relevant technical experience.
  • 5 years of experience managing software development teams.
  • Understanding of Agile methodologies; specifically frequent, iterative releases that rely on customer feedback to refine features over time.
  • Experience working with the following technologies or teams working with:
  • Linux operating systems.
  • Git for version control.
  • Back-end languages such as C/C or JVM based languages - Java/Groovy.
  • Developing full stack software solutions at scale using build frameworks such as Maven, NPM, or cmake with enterprise collaboration CI/CD tools such as GitHub or GitLab.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills across a geographically diverse team.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience designing, developing, integrating, testing, and deploying software in Docker and Kubernetes environments.
  • Experience with microservice architectures.
  • Experience operating in AWS: EC2, EKS, S3, SQS, SNS, and Lambda.
  • Familiarity with Terraform.
  • Familiarity with Helm.
  • Experience with PostgreSQL or another relational database.
  • Experience with Maven and/or Gradle.
