The VMware Engineer will play a crucial role in designing, implementing, and maintaining the organization's virtual infrastructure utilizing VMware technologies. Responsibilities include managing virtual machines for servers, desktops, and networking components vital to the operations of our enterprise environment.Duties and Responsibilities:We are seeking an experienced VMware Engineer with a solid background in designing, deploying, and managing VMware environments. The Engineer will be responsible for: Implementing, configuring, and maintaining VMware ESXi hosts, vCenter Server, and virtual machines across multiple physical sites, adhering to industry best practices and security standards. Performing regular infrastructure assessments, maintenance, updates, and patches to ensure the security, reliability, and performance of the virtual infrastructure. Monitoring and optimizing virtual infrastructure performance, resource utilization, and system availability using VMware tools and industry best practices. Designing, implementing, and managing VMware networking components such as distributed switches, VLANs, and NSX in alignment with organizational network requirements. Troubleshooting and resolving issues related to VMware virtualization technologies, including performance bottlenecks, connectivity problems, and virtual machine management, utilizing root cause analysis methodologies. Collaborating with other IT teams to design and implement infrastructure solutions that integrate with virtualization technologies and align with command requirements. Providing mentorship and guidance to junior engineers and team members to foster a deeper understanding of virtualization technologies and their role within our infrastructure.Additional Responsibilities: Implementing backup and disaster recovery solutions for virtual machines and infrastructure components using VMware Site Recovery Manager and other relevant tools. Developing and maintaining documentation related to virtualization architecture, processes, and procedures, ensuring alignment with industry best practices and organizational standards. Evaluating and recommending new VMware technologies and solutions to enhance system performance, efficiency, and scalability in line with industry trends and organizational needs. Supporting projects to enhance the security, efficiency, or capability of the virtualized environment, ensuring adherence to project management best practices. Collaborating with vendors and third-party providers for troubleshooting and issue resolution, maintaining a positive and solution-oriented working relationship. Ensuring compliance with security policies, regulations, and best practices related to virtualization technologies, including NIST, CIS, and VMware guidelines.Education and/or Certifications: Required: Applicable DoD 8140 or DoD 8570 Certification VMware Certified Professional (VCP) or VMware Certified Advanced Professional (VCAP)Desired: ITIL 4 Foundation Certification VMware Certified Design Expert (VCDX) Bachelor’s degree in IT with 8 years of experience OR 12 years applicable experience.Required Skills: Demonstrated proficiency in architecting, deploying, and managing VMware vSphere infrastructure, adhering to best practices. Experience with VMware technologies including ESXi, vCenter Server, vSAN, vSphere Networking, and NSX. Familiarity with automation tools such as Ansible, PowerCLI, or Terraform for automation tasks and infrastructure-as-code. This is not, however, a guarantee of compensation or salary.
