As a member of the DevOps Automation team, you are responsible for automating repetitive manual tasks for our mission critical Network and Teleport Operations production systems. The Principal DevOps Automation Engineer is responsible for the creation and execution of the Operations automation systems strategy. This role facilitates regular business engagement towards the development, enhancement, and support of our Operations’ systems.

  • Automate system tasks and processes using Orchestration tools, such as:
    • Runbook Automation (RBA)
    • Robotic process automation (RPA)
    • Artificial Intelligence for Operations (AIOps)
    • Machine Learning (ML)
  • Support Event Management systems (Netcool/SevOne)
  • Capable of critical and analytical thinking in the development of solutions to address complex, abstract problems and/or long-term business strategies
  • Provide operational assistance for support systems tools and processes
  • Drives continuous improvement by evaluating and documenting support systems capability requirements against cost, impact, return on investment, and risk to business

Job Duties
  • DevOps Automation & Event Management:
    • Automation against operations support systems, such as: networks, platforms,servers
    • Scripting utilizing automation languages (Java, Bash/Shell, Python, and PowerShell, or other applicable scripting language)
    • Support of the real-time, centralized monitoring of large, complex networks and technological systems
    • Fault and performance monitoring tools, such as Netcool, Netcool Operations Insight (NOI), and SevOne
  • Find and document automation opportunities across the product lifecycle
  • Select the right processes and tools to automate tasks and processes
  • Design scripts the team can use while developing, testing, and monitoring the operational support systems, process and the product offerings they support
  • Setup and integration of Monitoring and Management tools and the Service Desk to quickly and proactively prevent, detect, diagnose and remediate errors
  • Develop statement or scope of work (SOW) documentation and or requests for information (RFI) / proposal (RFP) for vendors or internal support teams as needed
  • Meet with stakeholders and document use cases to be implemented as part of projects and automation
  • Create Agile user stories for the development teams to use in delivery of our requirements and solutions
  • Conduct research and analysis on tools for our Operations team(s) to increase efficiency and productivity
  • Lead cross functional teams through systems requirements gathering and implementation
  • Partners with various internal technical teams to deliver new or enhanced systems tools and the facilitate the hand-off of new tools to Operations teams
  • Coordinate and lead meetings with stakeholders providing notes with action items upon completion of meetings
  • Work with Service Operations to update Operational processes and procedures associated with new tools or enhancements
  • Coach/mentor junior staff providing critical feedback on process, tools, and behaviors

Required Skills
  • A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or Engineering plus 10 years of relevant work experience in Systems Management or Engineering; or high school diploma with at least 14 years of relevant work experience in large scale, complex, mission critical Engineering or Systems Management
  • DevOps expertise with experience with Event Management and Monitoring Systems along with Orchestration systems
  • Knowledge of ServiceNow; especially as it relates to any experience integrating Event Management and Monitoring tools with ServiceNow, or similar ITSM tool, highly beneficial
  • Familiarity with SQL, SQL Server and Oracle databases
  • Linux based scripting experience such as: Shell, JavaScript, Python, and PowerShell, or other applicable scripting languages
  • Understand CMDB services and dependency mapping
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office software suite, especially with using Visio to diagram systems and workflows
  • Must have strong written and verbal communication skills including strong presentation skills
  • Advanced critical thinking, decision-making, negotiation, and problem-solving skills
  • Highly self-managed and self-organized individual able to work independently
  • Must have proven experience working in a project-based environment for the deployment of large, complex systems tools
  • Must be able to convey complex technical issues to both technical and non-technical individuals
  • Ability to be on-call 24/7 (business-side system support)
  • Ability to lift equipment weighing 30lbs (more weight with assistance)
