We support 35 faculty members, 24 staff, and approximately 150 graduate student. The Director cultivates a positive and highly functional environment in support of important public health training and research.JOB DESCRIPTION:

In collaboration with the Departmental Chair and RSPH Chief Business Officer, directs and manages the operations, personnel, and fiscal activities for an academic department or business unit with an operating budget of over $3 million.

Serves as the department's liaison with administrative deans and directors within the school.

Directs the day to day administrative, personnel and financial operations of the department.

Oversees all departmental staff, including administrative, financial and related support personnel.

Functions as the chief financial officer of the department.

Develops annual all-funds budget, including position planning.

Provides quarterly budget to actual forecasts.

Determines and recommends options for addressing budget issues.

Manages faculty effort allocations in collaboration with Research Administration Services.

Plans and prepares projections for management of unit operations and associated costs.

Implements financial controls, provides fiscal management over administrative, academic, sponsored research, service centers and operating funds, and strategically plans for the future.

Prepares departmental annual report of financial and academic history, policies and forecasts.

Establishes departmental processes and procedures to insure compliance with government, university and school policies.

Continually monitors and advises faculty and staff regarding administrative and academic activity, implications of policy changes and information systems strategies.

Oversees all departmental staff, including administrative, financial and related support personnel.

Projects and develops plans for addressing staffing requirements.

Hires, supervises and evaluates regular staff and student employees.

Oversees onboarding, orientation and training of staff, including procedures to improve efficiency and as necessary to reorganize.

Prioritizes work assignments and special projects.

Researches and investigates employee issues/concerns.

With the assistance of the Office of Human Resources, determines and implements solutions to non-routine HR problems both at the request of the staff and/or supervisors and by self-initiated intervention.

Works with the chair and faculty to plan and manage the physical space allocated to the department to insure optimum utilization.

Performs related responsibilities as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor's degree, preferably in business, finance or related field, and five years of professional business or management experience, OR an equivalent combination of experience, education, and training.

Previous supervisory experience.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Experience in financial reporting and processing accounting transactions.

Previous experience with Emory systems (Compass, Emory Express, Emory Business Intelligence, iCIMS) or similar applications.

Knowledge of faculty affairs and/or faculty search processes

High level of proficiency in MS Office Suite.
