Eaton's Commercial and Residential Distribution Solutions (CRDS) Division is currently seeking an EV Charger Lead Electrical Engineer to join our team. This position is based at our Peachtree City, GA facility. Relocation assistance will be provided. Position Overview: The CRDS Division is expanding its product development of AC chargers for Electric Vehicles in the North American region. To address the new business needs, the division is looking for talent who can help lead the development, design, testing, validation and certification of our expanding range of EV charging units. The EV Charger Lead Electrical Engineer will be responsible for the design of electronics and IoT functionality included in EV chargers. Responsibilities for this role are linked with Eaton's digitalization strategy and include systems development of schematics and PCBA electronics hardware, component selection, integration of firmware, documentation and product testing for applications and features in power management, communication (wireless and wired), intelligent data generation, remote control, diagnostics, cloud functionality, plus other areas. - Have technical responsibility for AC EV Charger range of products and ensures compliance to regulatory agency standards plus interoperability with open standards systems including OCPP compliance.
- Work with internal/external developers and suppliers to achieve project goals for our AC EV Charger products.
- Participate in creating system architectures for electronics HW and FW, software, mechanical packaging, and system integration for EV charging equipment including platform elements.
- Participate in gathering VoC input and organizes customer/market requirements into engineering requirements for product development.
- Bring depth of prior experience in developing AC charging equipment for EV applications to bear on new designs and provides technical support to internal/external customers.
- Conduct product analyses, identifies improvement opportunities for performance/efficiency/cost/reliability and implements into AC charger designs.
- Gain engineering experience with development of embedded control electronics for IoT, app-enabled and cloud-connected EV charging equipment.
- Represent Eaton's interests on councils and committees tasked with developing codes and standards for emerging technologies in which Eaton is investing.
- Lead product certification activities acting as the Eaton representative and prepares project technical packages - UL/CSA/FCC and other regulatory compliance bodies.
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Electronic Engineering/Technology, Computer Engineering or Computer Science from an accredited institution
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in electrical/electronic engineering design
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without company sponsorship now or in the future.
- Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution
- 7+ years of experience in similar positions for electronic PCBA hardware development
- Experience in electronic PCBA hardware development and firmware integration into cloud-connected IoT systems
- Strong interest in design and development of EV chargers and associated product standards such as UL, IEC & NEC.
- Demonstrated product execution from concept through commercialization of high technical complexity involving concept generation, POC, product packaging, industrial design, verification, validation and certification as per global standards.
- Strong background in Digital, Analog and Power electronics, PCB schematic and Layout tools (example: Altium, OrCad, PADs)
- Demonstrated experience of complex product design with emphasis on design for manufacturability.
- Project Management experience with ability to lead projects through a toll-gate process.
- Experience in gathering VoC plus input from marketing/sales teams and translating this into product design requirements with associated performance metrics
