The Pharmacy Automation Specialist practices in a setting of inpatient, retail, or infusion area within the institution.

Under general supervision, the Pharmacy Automation Specialist is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the hospital's automated pharmacy dispensing systems.

Reviews and analyzes application systems including testing, debugging, and installing to support departmentally based client/server software applications.

A limited degree of creativity and latitude is expected. Responds timely to customers' needs by answering phone calls, receiving and distributing messages, and triaging requests appropriately.

Conducts regular quality assurance inspections focused on TJC requirements, including the examination of product integrity and expiration.

Appropriately reports safety concerns and/or forwards opportunities to appropriate pharmacy personnel.

Assists pharmacists and technicians and other staff in the safe, effective, and efficient operation of the automated medication distribution process.

Coordinates set up, new builds, installations and expansions, ensuring that all systems, such as network, emergency power, space, etc are ready for implementation.

Ensures all systems are updated to conform with changes to the medication formulary or pharmacy regulations.

Optimizes inventory of medications within the automation system and ensures optimal and consistent configuration settings.

Assists with operational support functions, including minor housekeeping activities and department cleaning/disinfecting/decontaminating standards to maintain the work area.

Appropriately reports and reviews safety concerns and/or opportunities to enhance pharmacy services.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor's degree and one year of application systems/administration experience OR four years of pharmacy experience without a degree.

Must have one year relevant experience with application support.

Successful completion of an ASHP accredited technician training program (or equivalent) or enrollment in a professional-related school preferred.

Four years of related pharmacy experience required with proficiency in pharmacy automation utilization.

Current CPhT certification through either PTCB or NHA and active Georgia Pharmacy Technician registration, or current enrollment in an accredited School of Pharmacy with a current Georgia Pharmacy Intern license.

Must maintain certification and registration through entire length of employment.

Pharmacy Automation Specialist

Salary: $23.52-37.86/Hour.

The grade and salary of the position are based on specific criteria met within the qualifications of each level, relevant experience, skills, performance and internal equitiy.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: (Medium-Heavy) 36-75 lbs, 0-33% of the work day (occasionally); 20-35 lbs, 34-66% of the workday; (frequently); 10-20 lbs, 67-100% of the workday (constantly); Lifting 75 lbs max; Carrying of objects up to 35 lbs; Occasional to frequent standing & walking; Occasional sitting; Close eye work (computers, typing, reading, writing); Physical demands may vary depending on assigned work area and work tasks.ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS: Factors affecting environment conditions may vary depending on the assigned work and tasks. Environmental exposure include, but are not limited to Blood-borne pathogen exposure Bio-Hazardous waste, Chemicals/gases/fumes/vapors Communicable diseases Electrical shocks, Floor Surfaces, Hot/Cold Temperatures, Indoors/Outdoor conditions, Latex, Lighting, Patient care/handling injuries, Radiation Shift work.
