RESPONSIBILITIESI. JOB SUMMARY/RESPONSIBILITIES: Performs coding and abstracting of emergency room and outpatient medical records. Processes records of discharged patients.II. TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Essential: sitting, stooping/bending, finger dexterity, seeing, hearing, speaking, lifting, and carrying usual weight of 5 pounds, repetitive arm/hand motions, static gripping of an object for prolonged periods, frequent gripping of an object. Occasional: standing, walking, kneeling, climbing stairs, squatting, twisting body, lifting weight up to 10 pounds, pushing/pulling usual weight of 2 pounds up to 5 pounds, reaching above, at and below shoulder level. Operates computer, calculator, and telephone.III. TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS: Not substantially subjected to adverse environmental conditions. Subjected to noise/vibration form pneumatic tube system and telephones. Subjected to moving files, electrical wires and rolling ladders/step stools. Exposure to dust accumulation.IV. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:A. EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION AND LICENSURE: Coursework and/or demonstrated knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, pathology. Familiarity with ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS coding. Current certification in one of the following:o Certified Professional Coder (CPC) by AAPCo Certified Coding Associate (CCA) by AHIMAo Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) by AHIMAo Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) by AHIMAB. EXPERIENCE: One (1) year hospital work experience. Familiarity with use of computerized medical records system, EPIC preferred.
