POSITION: Farm Hand – Community Food Systems

REPORTS TO: Farm Manager

STATUS: Part-Time Non-Exempt (up to 20 hours per week)

RATE of PAY: $20-$22 per hour (based on experience and qualifications)

Grow Some Good is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization on Maui that was formed in 2008 and supports a healthy community by strengthening local agriculture and improving access to nutritious, affordable food. GSG recently launched its Community Food Systems Program, Nā Māla Kaiāulu. This program was specifically created to align with our mission by building sustainable, long-term community food gardens, programs, and systems that connect, serve, and feed underprivileged communities across Maui.

CFS Farmhand Responsibilities:

The Farmhand will work closely with the Grow Some Good (GSG) Community Food Systems (CFS) team, community partners and volunteers in helping to build and support Nā Māla Kaiāulu, GSG’s community farm/agroforest. The primary role of the Farm Hand will be to support the creation of a community garden space and the regeneration of 2.5 fallow acres into a community farm/agroforest. While the majority of the work is hands on and farm related, the Farm Hand will also assist in community outreach, volunteer days and distribution of harvest.

Though the work schedule is flexible, it is important to plan your week in accordance to project needs and to coordinate and align your work schedule with the CFS team members.

Be willing to participate in a Background Check

Have access to reliable transportation

Qualifications:

High School or General Equivalency Diploma

Prefer background/experience in sustainable organic farming methodologies, including usage of standard farm equipment and tools

Must be able and willing to positively engage with a diverse range of people in all age groups

Self-motivated, and able to work autonomously

Experience in agriculture, landscaping or carpentry helpful

Ability to work outdoors in all weather (heat, humidity, rain and cold)

Passion for gardening, food security and regenerative agriculture
