IT Specialist (CUSTSPT) to join our Hawaii team.

Your day-to-day work will include:
  • Develops, coordinates, and assists in the utilization and operation of IT equipment as either stand-alone equipment or connected to a network computer.
  • Provides customer consultation services to assist in developing and defining requirements for new or additional IT capabilities in the form of hardware, software and/or communication equipment. Recommends alternate solutions if the submitted justification that does not fully support the requested functional capabilities.
  • With assistance from the G6 IT/KM staff, evaluates technical specifications, vendor and research agency technical literature, and customer supplied automation, communication, email, and LAN information to recommend incorporating cost effective new technologies within the functional areas serviced by the Helpdesk.
  • Performs testing and validation of vendor's equipment and software for conformance to standards and/or existing installed customer baselines.
  • Performs benchmark testing to ensure proposed hardware and software solutions perform as expected and are compatible with MEDCOM/WRMC defined architectures. Based on test results and overall knowledge of customer operating environments, recommends hardware and software configurations most effectively meeting customer’s specific needs.
  • Documents and trains customers on how to implement and use approved solution and physically assists customers by installing approved hardware and software.
  • Monitors use and effectiveness to prepare after action critiques and reports to both customers and vendors.
  • As the first line of defense on computer security for the activity’s personal computers, responds to users’ notification of computer virus infection and uses standard software tools to clean the personal computer and ensure that the problem is adequately contained.
  • Coordinates with server system administrators to ensure that infections have not been passed to server machines. (40%)
  • Provides advanced system troubleshooting, system management and support services on IT equipment (e.g., computers, video teleconferencing, Network Encryption System, secure telephone equipment and communications security).
  • Provides complete technical support, including diagnosis, research, evaluation, installation, training, and maintenance for personnel who are current or prospective users. Such support includes analysis of network, peripheral, software and hardware compatibilities associated with desktop personal computers capable of running multiple, multi-tasking operating systems as well as diagnosing and resolving problem areas. These tasks will be performed as part of an overarching support team consisting of IT personnel from headquarters, RHC-P (Tier II/III network services and support) as well as JBLM NEC for garrison and/or Secret Internet. Protocol Router (SIPR) services. (40%)
  • Responsible for receiving automation purchase requests from RHC-P departments.
  • Coordinates with RHC-P IMD staff for local procurement of information technology hardware and software and to ensure network and systems capability.
  • Assists customers in the selection and specification of hardware and software.
  • Assists in the planning, development, and coordination of appropriate portions of IT training in coordination with other staff of the headquarters.
  • Identifies subject areas for which user training is required, develops, or supports identification and selection of commercial sources for training when appropriate, conducts portions of the training, evaluates trainee feedback, and recommends changes to improve training. Conducts appropriate courses. (20%)

At a minimum you should have:
  • SECRET clearance
  • Must have 5-7 years’ experience
