Java Kai in Kapa'a is seeking candidates for our Manager on Duty position. Applicants with prior experience in Food & Beverage leadership, specifically with cafe/coffee expertise preferred. Please submit a professional resume and cover letter to be eligible for consideration.
We are seeking responsible and energetic people to work alongside an awesome, dedicated team of individuals. You must be able to work well by yourself and with a team, have a positive attitude, and be able to keep a friendly smile on during a rush. While we are known for our coffee, we are a full-service breakfast + lunch cafe as well. Team members can enjoy daily shift meals and a free coffee drink every day (even on days off)!
Applicants must have a flexible schedule and availability to work 3-5 days a week. Must be available to work both Saturday and Sunday, every single weekend. Applicants unavailable on weekends need not apply.
Role
The purpose of the MOD role is to provide support and guidance for all FOH team members and schedule them appropriately, while also ensuring all supplies are stocked and ordered appropriately and the store runs smoothly. Ensuring that new team members are trained appropriately by yourself and/or established employees, and that policies and standards are upheld and recipes are precisely followed. Responsibilities
Leadership
Maintain complete knowledge of and compliance with all Java Kai policies, regulations, and quality standards. Ensure that all team members are compliant
Ensure all team members on shift complete checklists efficiently and thoroughly
Be highly organized, detail-oriented, and maintain the ability to multitask
Proficiently work with digital spreadsheets, data entry/management
Foster a positive working environment, consistently supporting and encouraging team members
Able to answer all customer and team questions, handle administrative tasks, relay information to repair techs/delivery people
Communicate with BOH chefs/team leads
Maintain appropriate staffing levels, scheduling team members according to availability and business needs
Cover FOH shifts in the event of short notice shift abandonment by baristas
Perform any other reasonable duties as requested by management
Customer Service
Greet and acknowledge all arriving/departing customers
Take food & beverage orders, utilizing suggestive selling techniques. Comply with proper cash handling/cash drawer maintenance procedures
Provide a seamless and impressive customer service experience while making drinks
Nurture friendly relationships with customers to increase loyalty
Check back with customers; solicit comments, respond to customer requests with urgency
Ability to anticipate customer needs. Knowing our customers and anticipating their needs are keys to achieving an exceptional response. Maintain stocked, clean, and organized self serve stations
Handle customer disputes/dissatisfaction. Report any concerns or complaints to upper management immediately
Bus tables, maintain cleanliness of customer dining areas
Menu Knowledge
Maintain knowledge of all food and beverage options including:
-All coffee, tea, juice, and smoothie selections; correct shorthand, recipes, glassware, and garnishes.
Characteristics and description of every menu offering including:
-All food and beverage variations, prices, preparations, method/time, major ingredients, quality standards, taste, appearance, texture, serving temperature, garnishes, method of preparation, and allergy/dietary restrictions.
-Ability to provide compelling stories behind each menu offering rather than reading off a laundry list of ingredients
Maintain knowledge of all coffee bean offerings (source, flavor notes, type of roast) being able to guide customers in selection process and offer suggestions based on preferences
Maintain knowledge of all loose leaf/brewed tea offerings (source, variety/ingredients, preparation)
Daily Operations
Utilize, clean, and maintain coffee brewing machinery and tools following best practices and procedures
Ensure proper labeling and rotation of perishable products, maintaining log of product loss and adjusting FOH production as necessary
Assist with production of FOH prep
Ensure all team members complete assigned checklists + side work
Maintain cleanliness and organization of site (FOH), including customer seating areas
Count and balance cash drawers, tracking all cash in Cash Log sheet
Add cash deposits to the safe, appropriately tracking all deposits on Cash Log sheet
Distribute tips weekly to eligible TMs
Change out bills for coin rolls, balance and replenish cash drawers as necessary
Keep petty cash bank stocked in all denominations of bills and coin rolls
