Assistant Controller Summary: This position is responsible for helping to maintain the financial health of the Organization as directed by the Controller. This includes, but is not limited to, the handling of daily transactions, month-end closing tasks, year-end audit tasks, outside agency audit tasks, and other job-related duties as assigned. This position also is responsible for helping to create or change, implement, and enforce accounting policies and procedures as required to maintain the financial health of the Organization. This should be accomplished by having a thorough understand of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Support and manage all General Ledger activity with clear understanding of revenue drivers and costs (Payer mix, encounters, vacancies, etc.)
  • Work closely with team of Accountants to evaluate financial data and company's margins. Flag anomalies and key variances for Controller
  • Review costs accruals to ensure capture during close and reduction of unrecorded liabilities
  • Assists in the production of monthly financial packet and related operating statements, balance sheets; and in explaining variances with these financial documents
  • Completes detailed margin analysis and budget to actual evaluations
  • Performs, monitors, and delegates duties related to the daily close, month-end close, year-end close
  • Leads accounting and allocation of any Shared Services GL impact across the company such as: Insurance, Communication, Rent, Billing Department Fees, Administrative Shared Services cost, depreciation etc.
  • Complete bank account and all Balance Sheet reconciliations, cash draw downs, and vouchering as applicable
  • Point person for Annual Single and Financial Audits as well as liaison for 990 completion
  • Complete Annual Medicare and Medicaid Cost reports;as well as assigned grant reports
  • Complete UDS financial tables
  • Assists with the preparation of other financial documents and analyses.
  • Demonstrates a thorough understanding of contractual obligations and other pertinent matters as set forth in the business transactions of the Organization
  • Manages cash, monitors cash flow, and maintains the cash reserve
  • Maintains clear and concise work papers with special attention to accuracy and presentation
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

  • Education and/or Experience: Bachelor's degree (B.A.) from a four-year college or university, or six years of related experience or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Minimum of four years supervisory experience.
  • Computer Skills: Ability or willingness to acquire knowledge of Blackbaud products Financial Edge and Raisers Edge; Microsoft Office; Internet Explorer; Hedge; Concur; and other shared software
  • Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Recognition as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) is a highly desirable qualification.
  • Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from employees, regulatory agencies, or members of the business and financial communities. Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and Board of Directors.
  • Mathematical Skills: Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Reasoning Ability: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
