The Press Operator 4 is responsible for the operating panels, pull unit / Pre-feed, Rotary die cutter, Assemblies, Delivery/ Receiving table. Keep all presses producing quality cartons at a set standard. Participate in and perform employee training. Have knowledge and skill to relieve all Press positions if necessary. SCOPE OF POSITION Position functions under the guidance of the production manager / superintendent Position requirements include a strong technical background in press operation and the ability to troubleshoot and problem solve all press-related issues to achieve department goals in safety, quality, productivity, training, and skill development. HEALTH AND SAFETY Responsible to work in compliance with the provisions of the company’s health and safety regulations. Use and wear all protective devises/clothing as required, ear plugs, safety shoes, safety glasses, gloves Report to the employer/supervisor the absence of or defect in any equipment or protective devices Report to the employer/supervisor any contravention of the Occupational Health and Safety Act or the regulations or the existence of any hazard, which he/she knows. Report any incident, near miss, or property damage immediately Maintain a clean and safe working environment Mandatory participation in the WestRock safety program - see program list for options DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Quality Assurance and Production (30%) Work as part of a team to achieve set standards in quality and productivity Continuous improvement of press performance - run time, down time, waste, and defects, etc. Make recommendations to improve press performance and lead/assist with the implementation Assist operators with running problems and trouble shoot equipment malfunctions Identify and correct any press/ print problems or other carton quality issues that could lead to customer complaints Recognize and resolve running problems quickly to minimize downtime and use the opportunity to improve operator knowledge and skill Operating Panels (30%) Main Rollstand Splicer Festoon Oversee / assist crews on copy changes and ensure proper procedures and practices are being followed Continuously improve times and performance Perform trainings as necessary Training and Skill Development (30%) Assist Shift Superintendent and Coordinator in managing training and development activities on shift with the goal of developing trained back-ups for all key positions Assist in identifying training needs and priorities and the implementation of training programs-both formal and informal on-the-job Monitor training on each press and ensure that skill development is ongoing Assist in the training of all new employees in the department Equipment Maintenance (5%) Perform minor repairs to equipment when necessary Assist maintenance department in identifying, troubleshooting, and repairing equipment Assist installation of new equipment Recommend modifications to equipment to improve performance - safety, quality, productivity Recommend preventative maintenance Housekeeping ( 5% ) Keep area they are working in clean and tidy Keep their office clean and tidy REQUIREMENTS High School Diploma or equivalent experience is required.
