The

Smart Grid Programs (SGP) team engages partnerships across ComEd and ComEd's communities to design and implement impactful projects. The team collaborates with Engineering Teams to demonstrate a range of advanced energy technologies and their benefits. Innovation is in the core fiber of ComEd, and employees on the SGP team are responsible for helping to weave together to explore new and exciting ways to better serve our customers and communities. The team manages the Community of the Future Program, STEM Programs along with strategic partnerships and initiatives for Engineering and Smart Grid.

PRIMARY PURPOSE OF POSITION

This position has overall responsibility for the financial and business operations and execution of projects within the Smart Grid & Technology organization. Leads a team of analysts, engineers, consultants and project managers that perform high-level analysis, prepare comprehensive reports and manage high profile projects with broad internal (Legal, Regulatory, Finance and Operations) stakeholders and externally facing partners including the U.S Department of Energy (DOE), Educational Institutions and National Laboratories. Conducts complex modeling and development of business cases and other general financial and operational analysis for current and future Smart Grid Initiatives. This position is also responsible for managing the Innovation functions embedded within Smart Grid (Innovation Hub).

PRIMARY DUTIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Develop, own and maintain business cases and models for current and future initiatives. Obtain buy in and support from internal stakeholder groups including but not limited to regulatory, finance and operations.
  • Lead and manage high profile cross-organizational projects including DOE or other grant awards. Will have responsibility for managing the contractual relationships established with the various project partners and the DOE and the on time delivery of project deliverables.
  • Develop tracking and reporting mechanisms to validate business case assumptions during pilot projects and conduct analysis that inform decisions and strategies for broader scale deployment.
  • Develop and enforce change management associated with full scale implementation of Grid Analytics and Emerging Technologies.
  • Lead and oversee the activities of the Innovation Hub including establishing strategy, goals and managing communication, activities and relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Manage the process of developing and updating short term (annual budget) and long term financial plans (LRP) for the department. Provide periodic updates as needed to Finance, Investment Strategy and other stakeholders.
  • Prepare periodic and as needed status reports on the projects and initiatives being executed by Smart Grid and Technology.
  • Responsible for monthly handling day to day issues regarding the budget and finances for the department.
  • Participate in industry leading activities including writing articles and participating in working groups or task forces.
  • Identify, cultivate and maintain strategic partnerships with schools, education non-proftis and community organizations
  • Collaborate across deparments to coordinate and align ComEd's STEM Programs
  • Monitor and evaluate the implementation of STEM Programs with the goal of developing a pipeline of future engineers/STEM professionals
  • Create and design new STEM Programs for underrepresented youth in STEM
  • Develop relationships with education or STEM based organizations with the goal of engaging in thought leadership and contributing to the STEM ecosystem in Illinois and beyond
  • Develop and monitor ComEd mentor recruitment and training
  • Communicate program progress, risk and issues with Executive Leadership

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • BA/BS in Business and 8-10 years related business experience.
  • Advanced understanding of applicable standards, methods, processes and practices, business fundamentals, and performance metrics in the specific functional area supported by this position (e.g., asset management, electric or gas operations, customer service, transmission and substation, distribution system operations, regulatory and external affairs, transmission operations and planning).
  • Advanced proficiency in standard software applications (e.g., Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Project), specialized business technologies and applications and ability to retrieve and analyze data in support of business needs.
  • Ability to provide in-depth analysis and apply managerial accounting concepts, customer intelligence gathering, forecasting, staff planning, scheduling, analytical and statistical problem solving, financial, business and budget analysis.
  • Expert analytical skills for project evaluation including analysis of complex projects with economic, financial, risk and decision analysis.
  • Proficient in business case development and modeling including ability to create what-if scenarios analysis and to simplify models to match available information.
  • Ability to effectively present business cases to business unit leadership.
  • Demonstrated ability in leading cross functional or cross-organizational project teams
  • Advanced knowledge of the practices, procedures and principles of performance analysis (trending, root cause and gap analysis) benchmarking and audit compliance.
  • Ability to analyze organizational data and complex problems, interpret and recommend alternative courses of action, and implement intervention strategies to attain performance targets.
  • Ability to build consensus, establish trust, communicate effectively and foster culture change.
  • Demonstrated advanced skills in problem solving, negotiation, conflict management and business acumen to foster relationships with partners.
  • Customer driven with good oral and written communications skills

  • MBA or similar advanced degree
