THE IMPACT YOU CAN HAVE:

This Data Scientist is an integral part of the Ulta Beauty Strategic Analytics and Data Science team that utilizes the power of advanced analytics techniques to address the diverse business questions and challenges facing Ulta Beauty Leadership. Our team's mission is to provide Ulta Beauty a distinct competitive advantage by mining our rich data assets to inform strategic and tactical business decisions. As a Data Scientist, you will succeed by adapting techniques, such as Machine Learning and AI, conducting statistical analyses, and constructing large scale prediction systems in a fast-paced, data-focused retail environment. The Data Scientist will also act as a subject matter expert, communicating the value and tackling the application of advanced analytics for various use cases with multiple stakeholders across Ulta Beauty.

YOU'LL ACCOMPLISH ALL THIS BY:
  • Design and develop advanced analytical models to optimize communication and operational tactics, while generating overall efficiencies across Ulta Beauty
  • In addition to classical statistical methods, research and implement new machine learning approaches and techniques to drive innovative analytical solutions that solve business problems and identify insights
  • Explore our rich, omnichannel and customer data assets across our 30M+ Ultamate Rewards loyalty program members to construct analytical solutions for improving Ulta Beauty guests' experience
  • Develop a strong partnership and collaboration with internal Ulta Beauty teams, performing as a key partner who consults on how to attain business goals through advanced analytics
  • Explain and present complex analytical approaches in a concise manner to drive alignment and outcomes from business partners
  • Assess and understand the cost/benefit relationship of developing and deploying learned models based on changing business needs
  • Ensure data integrity and quality by leveraging proven methodologies, including data reconciliation, data integration and data audits
  • Continue driving a data driven culture across Ulta Beauty and mentoring less experienced team members on AI/ML techniques and MLOps

ESSENTIALS FOR SUCCESS:
  • 3+ years of professional experience in analytical functions
  • Advanced degree preferred in a highly quantitative field such as Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Engineering, Economics, etc.
  • Advanced knowledge of statistical techniques and concepts (e.g., multivariate regression, A/B tests, decision trees, etc.) and experience applying these to use cases
  • Fluency in Python and scientific related frameworks (e.g., scikit-learn, numpy, scipy etc.)
  • Experience with SQL and related data access and analysis tools to mine data, identify insights, and extract features
  • Hands-on experience with cloud computing platforms, preferably Google Cloud Platform
  • Hands-on experience with designing, deploying, and maintaining machine learning pipelines
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills to communicate complex ideas to various audiences in both a technical and user-friendly language
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively both in a team environment and independently by handling multiple projects, meeting deadlines, prioritizing appropriately and responding to issues quickly and creatively with an open and positive attitude
  • Energetic and self-motivated with a strong sense of curiosity - must be extremely organized and detail oriented with an ability to make proactive recommendations
  • View the "big picture" and drive towards business results
  • Comfort working in a dynamic, research-oriented team

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Practical experience with CI/CD and MLOps best practices and tools (Git, Airflow, Jenkins, Bamboo, etc.)
  • Experience in retailer and e-commerce industries
  • Experience with Apache Spark (PySpark, and MLlib)
  • Experience with or knowledge of Agile Software Development methodologies
  • Knowledge of software development principles and architectures
  • Understanding of causal and uplift models
  • Experience with deep learning frameworks (e.g., Tensorflow, Torch, etc.)
  • Google's Certified Professional-Data-Engineer certification, or other Professional certifications
