Join us.DescriptionThe Electronic Components Engineering Project Team Lead position has product line responsibility for a portfolio of wire harness products used in Caterpillar machines and engines. One key challenge will be to establish supply strategies, which will satisfy the differing needs of each product team at Caterpillar. The position requires a person with strong leadership qualities and who can work effectively across different business units. Along with leading a team of engineers, design, and quality oversight of several electrical harness systems of varying complexity as well as life-cycle management of those products.Job DutiesThe position develops, improves, and troubleshoots electrical hardware used in an array of engine and machine systems. This includes a mix of new product development, technology selection, defining and verifying requirements, supplier identification and CPPD, component validation, NPI and NTI project advancement, product and production support, cost reduction, CPI, and component life-cycle management. Some activities will be performed in partnership with a supplier including and may involve manufacturing plan and process development. This position performs analysis work, identifies design problems, and resolves them.This position works closely with Engine and Machine System/Subsystem product team members to understand application requirements, performance needs as well as meet business objectives. Incumbents will be expected to bear significant responsibility for completion of projects with a major focus on delivery.Primary functions of the job include:

Lead a team that manages a portfolio of products

Practical product design, as well as great problem solving. The problems have an element of both technical and business challenge, which will require preparing concepts, strategies, and feasibility studies.

Draft and execute plans in concert with timing needs of product groups

Maintain an enterprise viewpoint concerning quality, product cost, and risk

Initiate product cost improvements and execute plans to consolidate products where appropriate. Within that context, draw connection between Caterpillar products where commonalities could be leveraged.

Within the scope of NPI workflow ensure that all of Caterpillar’s L2/L1 NPI and APQP process elements are completed

Act as development team lead, interacting with system teams, wire harness component team members, plant locations, suppliers and purchasing to ensure development commitments are met

Plan and coordinate product testing in concert with program needs

Coordinate supplier evaluations, production readiness reviews and facilitate other required supplier development activities

The Electronic Components Engineering Project Team Lead is expected to provide technical leadership, and mentor new staff members. Will need to adept at communicating to different levels of management where one can provide concept reviews, technical and business status updates, and when working closely with other team members located in different global locations.Basic QualificationsRequires a Bachelor’s degree (prefer a Master’s degree) from an accredited Engineering curriculum (Electrical, Mechanical, Aerospace, or Agricultural field) and commensurate product development and project leadership experience.Top Candidates will also haveStrong strategy development backgroundExcellent communication, and the ability to communicate technical information effectively to people with various backgrounds.Developed mechanical and electrical / electronic aptitude and troubleshooting skillsDemonstrated ability to learn quickly and retain pertinent informationDemonstrated ability to communicate technical information concisely and accuratelyHave working knowledge of the operation of CAT products and it’s electrical and control systems.Additional InformationThe location for this position is Mossville, IL.Domestic relocation assistance is available for this position.This position may require up to 10% travel.Visa sponsorship is available for this position.Employee benefit detailsOur goal at Caterpillar is for you to have a rewarding career.
