Offers may vary depending on the circumstances of each case.Summary:Reporting directly to the RUMC EMS & Disaster Medicine Medical Director,the Emergency Medical Services & Disaster Medicine (EMS & DM) Nursing Coordinator, is a professional registered nurse who is responsible for executing, under limited supervision, the EMS & Disaster Medicine activities at RUMC. Additionally, the role will have primary responsibility for all EMS educational and administrative programs at RUMC. Finally, on a limited basis,the job will also provide direct patient, clinical care to ED patients at least one shift per week. Accountability for this activity will lie with the Rush University Medical Center Emergency Department Unit Director (UD).The EMSC nurse exemplifies the Rush mission, vision, and values and acts in accordance with RUSH policies, procedures, and I-CARE values.Other information:Required Job Qualifications Current State of Illinois Registered Nurse licensure. Baccalaureate degree. Progressive nursing experience with five years Emergency Department experience. Analytical ability. Communication skills to lead, teach, and persuade others. The ability to check documents for errors, use a keyboard to enter or retrieve data, and closely examine images or reports. Able to interact effectively with others in challenging situations. Emergency Communications Registered Nurse (ECRN). Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Certified. Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) Certified. Certified Emergency Nurse (CEN). Maintain in good clinical standing to be able to actively work minimally one shift per week in the RUMC Emergency Department. Emergency Medical Services (EMS) System or System is an organization of hospitals, vehicle service providers and personnel approved by the Illinois Department of Public Health in a specific geographic area, which coordinates and provides pre-hospital and inter-hospital emergency care and non-emergency medical transports at a Basic Life Support-CPR (BLS), and/or Advanced Life Support (ALS) level pursuant to the IL EMS Chicago Central System Program Plan submitted to and approved by the Department and pursuant to the EMS Regional Plan adopted for the EMS Region 11. Oversee emergency communications registered nurse (ECRN) initial and continuing education, training, and validates the medical care given is consistent with established Standing Medical Orders (SMO) of IDPH EMS Region XI.
Evaluate, prepare, and implement training and educational programs designed to meet initial ECRN certification and recertification needs.
Coordinate longitudinal ECRN training and education and scheduling in conjunction with RUMC emergency department nursing leadership.
Assist EMS & DM Medical Director with EMS case reviews including procurement of radio calls, Chicago Fire Department patient care report, and any other associated documentation.
Responsibility for oversight over RUMC EMS Radios: overseeing continuity of operations and repairs.
Collaborate with RUMC Stroke Program in EMS continuing education with program content, procurement of IDPH Continuing Education (CE), and communication with attendees.
Collaborate with EMS & DM Medical Director with monthly EMS outreach for RUMC ED Staff including education, staff highlights, and future programs.
Collaborate with RUMC Supply Chain, Environmental Services, and Clinical Engineering for proactive cleaning and up-keep of the RUMC ED Ambulance Bay.
Arrange, track, and communicate EMS Ride-a-Longs for RUMC Emergency Department Staff including resident physicians, nurses, and members of the Advanced Trauma Training Program.
Serve as member of the RUMC Chest Pain Committee and identify opportunities to create pre-hospital education for cardiovascular disorders.
Serve on Superior Ambulance Company and RUSH Oversight committee with responsibility to track, provide data, and discuss concerns and opportunities for improvement.
Oversee preceptorship program for emergency medical technician and paramedic students within the RUMC Emergency Department. Ensures that the program is compliant and provides desired outcomes.
Design, implement and maintain EMS continuous quality improvement (CQI) program as it relates to controlled substances.
Support, participate, and advanced EMS research in collaboration with the EMS & DM Medical Director as part of an educational portfolio.
Serve as member of the RUMC Emergency Management Committee and RUMC ED Disaster Preparedness Committee.
Collaborate with EMS & DM Medical Director in planning, execution, and review of disaster preparedness activities for the RUMC ED.
Establish, maintain, and advance collaborative relationships within the RUMC Hospital and IDPH Region XI EMS system.
Establish and maintain collaborative relationships with private EMS agencies and Chicago Fire Department.
Participate in monthly IDPH EMS Region XI Consortium Operations and Education Meetings.
Participate in EMS Region XI education from both Chicago Fire Department system entry as well as private EMS training program examination proctors in conjunction with Northwestern Memorial Hospital, EMS Region XI Resource Hospital.
Collaborate with EMS & DM Medical Director in providing EMS & DM Elective Rotation to Emergency Medicine Resident Physicians.
Collaborate with EMS & DM Medical Director in providing and tracking EMS Curriculum for Emergency Medicine Resident Physicians.
Collaborates with EMS & DM Medical Director as part of the RUSH EMS System Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) Process.
Collaborate and participate with EMS & DM Medical Director on oversight of Rush 911 Program, a registered student organization within Rush Medical College.
Partners with EMS Medical Director to interpret and enforce policies in accordance to Chicago Central EMS System/ IDPH Standards.
Facilitates communication and collaboration among pre-hospital caregivers, resource hospital, and RUMC hospital personnel.
Become member of the Rush High Consequence Infectious Disease (HCID) Team helping to advance safety and patient procedure as Rush University Medical Center is a Special Pathogen Center.
Performs one shift per pay period as clinical bedside nurse performing patient triage, resuscitation, and stabilization in the Rush University Medical Center Emergency Department. The duties will include but not be limited clinically observing patients in the ED, recording histories vitals, administering medications, consulting and collaborating with physicians and other healthcare professionals to ensure proprer care and positive outcomes.
Performs other duties as assigned by EMS & DM Medical Director.
