Clean Harbors is seeking an Environmental Technician I for our Remediation Group . The Environmental Technician I will need to be based in Cordova, IL for an immediate assignment. Once this assignment is completed after 12-24 months the employee will need to be open to traveling 100% in the USA. This position is responsible for activities at customer sites and helping with onsite projects.Per Diem available daily, Hourly competitive pay rates, travel costs covered by the company. Typical work schedule after immediate assignment will be 6 weeks on and 1 week off.Preferred location : Cordova, IL or within commute distance to this city; the schedule for this assignment will be Mon-Fri with occasional Saturday workWhy Work for Clean Harbors?

Responsibilities:

Adheres to and ensures constant compliance with Health & Safety Compliance and regulations;

Maintains up to date confined space entry supervisor status;

Responsible for the safe and compliant execution of all jobs that they work on, ensuring customer satisfaction, accumulating and recording accurate billing information;

Assists the on-scene foreman/supervisor in managing large projects;

Responsible for the training and mentoring of field technicians I & II and will provide input to the FSGM regarding performance evaluations for individuals to whom this position has direct supervision;

Performs emergency response activities including, but not limited to chemical and water spills, etiological and biological contamination, tank cleaning, equipment decontamination, etc.;

Responsible for quick and immediate response when on call, secure coverage for shift and communicate your replacement's name to the coordinator;

Responsible for vehicle inspections, equipment inspections and Health & Safety inspections. Ensures proper use of equipment and immediately notifies supervisor of any mechanical failures or problems with equipment;

Assists in the field sampling activities and calibration of meters;

Because of the emergency response and operational nature of the position, a continuing condition of employment is that the applicant/candidate acknowledges and agrees to be on-call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year and on occasion will require work during seek-ends and holidays;

Performs other duties and tasks as assigned from time to time by management and will be required by the needs of Clean Harbors business, including, but not limited to running supplies, emergency response clean ups, etc.

Qualifications:

High School Diploma;

Associate or bachelor’s degree in environmental studies preferred;

Valid and clean driver’s license;

Attention to detail;

Computer savvy;

Able to perform multiple tasks;

Knowledge of RCRA requirements/regulations;

Understands the manpower and equipment required to complete assignments;

Demonstrated leadership ability;

Available for 24 hour, on-call basis;

Ability to work with little or no direct supervision and an aptitude to complete assigned work;

Strong mechanical ability preferred;

Knowledge of chemicals preferred;

Knowledge of Department of Transportation DOT regulations, Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) waste codes, manifesting and Land Disposal Restrictions (LDR) (preferred);

All other duties as required by Management.

Physical Requirements:

Requires pulling/pushing, carrying, grasping, reaching, crawling, stooping and crouching in confined spaces; Requires walking, climbing, speaking, listening, color determination and clarity of vision at 2 feet or more (with or without lenses); Requires sitting for extended periods. Requires the ability to properly wear and use personal respirator equipment and other forms of personal protective equipment (PPE) including levels A,B,C,D & E, including full encapsulation PPE suits which can elevate body temperature substantially during strenuous exertion;

Available for 24/day on‐call basis;

Requires speaking, writing, and listening in English;

Position involves strenuous physical exertion. Requires standing, lifting up to 50lbs.
