Position Overview:As the NPI Intern you will support current New Product Introduction projects, in an engineering design, test sample preparation, and design review preparation role. This is a role that will provide the opportunity to work cross-functionally with other business areas including Marketing, Sales, Manufacturing, Finance and Supply Chain. It will require you to have ambition, drive, strong leadership, and solid engineering fundamentals, with confidence and enthusiasm in the product design and cost arenas. A highly entrepreneurial sense of urgency along with a passion for the industry is desirable. A strong drive to grow both personally and professionally is ideal for this role. The position will allow you to demonstrate your ability to drive innovation from ideation through Six Sigma processes, identification of product adjacencies, identification and execution of time savings through assembly optimization. The successful candidate will be a key resource for the NPI Engineering team in helping to innovate our LED luminaire product lines, supports systems, enclosures, seismic solutions and data and communications solutions for the next generation of hazardous and industrial products.Essential Functions:

Work in a cross-functional/multi-disciplinary team, making technology/engineering decisions for project on time execution

Support conceptual design, and complete system/component modeling to meet specific requirements.

Create CAD drawings, 3D models, assemblies, etc.

Support test plan development, including for 3rd party certifications, sample preparation, and data summary reports.

Ensure deployment of standard engineering practices, assessing test results, and root cause analysis through test findings/failures.

Prepare Design proposals and documentation required to define and control products.

Participate in design reviews, both customer and internal as required.

Qualifications:Required (Basic) Qualifications:

Actively enrolled in a bachelor’s degree program in engineering with a major in mechanical, electrical, industrial, industrial & systems, aerospace or aeronautical engineering or applied engineering sciences from an accredited institution

Minimum overall cumulative GPA of 2.8 or higher (please do not round)

Currently located within 50-mile radius of Syracuse, NY

Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without Company sponsorship

Preferred Qualifications:

Completion of freshman year by the start of the internship

Prior internship or co-op experience

Excellent written, oral communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills

Demonstrated leadership experience within campus and/or the community

Self-motivated and a strong desire to achieve results

Knowledge of SAP or similar MRP software

Position Success Criteria:

Transportation to and from the worksite is the responsibility of the co-op

Must have strong communication skills including verbal and written (E-Mail)

Must have strong computer knowledge; Microsoft Applications (Word, PowerPoint, Excel)

Mechanical engineering, solid modeling, and product design experience

Assumes accountability for tasks assigned

Effectively communicates across the project team

Assist with 3rd party certifications

Develop and test prototypes for new component ideas

Hands on testing of products, design validation, detail design, and drawing review

The internship culminates with a formal presentation where students showcase their success stories to leaders of the organization and receive feedback on their performance
