Healthcare, adheres to the organization’s Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program, and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines and all other regulatory and accreditation standards.Under the direction of the Director, the Laboratory Program Manager has the authority and accountability for implementation and Maintenance of their discipline specific Program at Northwestern Medicine.  This is a system position where the Laboratory Program Manager leads and directs initiatives for their defined program for all hospitals within the system. Unique responsibilities to this job include maintaining the highest degree of expertise in that specific discipline, i.e., staying current with information on the latest developments in technology and methodology through attendance at professional, association and scientific meetings, and maintaining continual dialogue with scientists and physicians.RESPONSIBILITIES:Adheres to hospital and department policies and procedures.Coordinates development, revision and updating of standard operating procedures and maintains document control.Ensures compliance with all federal, state, local, TJC, CAP, multi-disciplinary, hospital regulations, policies and procedures.Participates in planning and maintenance of the laboratory information system (LIS).Assures that all computer systems related changes, e.g. builds, interfaces within the department are appropriately planned for, well documented per department policy and have received documented approval at all steps.Facilitates a multi-disciplinary and collaborative approach to patient care and interdepartmental problem solving/service delivery.Participates in and presents at laboratory meetings and continuing education programs.Coordinates section technical in-service programs.Assumes delegated responsibilities in the absence of the Manager.Performs other duties as applicable.Initiates and facilitates preparation of new program proposals in conjunction with the Medical Directors, Administrative Directors, Managers and Operations Coordinators.PROFESSIONAL/PERSONAL DEVELOPMENTEstablishes and executes personal development objectives as part of annual objective setting process which complements current position.Identifies and pursues activities/development opportunities which are appropriate for position and personal development objectives, e.g., participation/leadership in relevant professional groups associations, continuing education as participant, presenter, and planner.Assesses and communicates staff development needs to Manager.LEADERSHIP/PROBLEM SOLVINGAdheres to Patients First Management standards on leadership, communication and visibility.Coordinates critical situations involving patients, staff, and visitors and consults with Manager or Director for guidance as needed (e.g., complaints, etc.).Facilitates effective interdepartmental communication with appropriate personnel (Manager, Director, Medical Staff; etc.).Provides leadership and guidance required to effectively define, plan and implement projects.Create and execute project work plans and revises as appropriate to meet changing needs and requirements.Utilize project management tools to ensure accuracy for planning, procurement and budgeting.Prepare and review deliverables for leadership approval.Establish and execute effective and efficient communication mechanisms which enable continuous exchange of ideas, information and project developments among team members.Promotes philosophy and objectives of the Hospital, Division and Department.Identifies and communicates key issues and trends to Manager.Serves as a liaison between NM Laboratories and clinical staff.MEDICAL STAFF RELATIONSo Works with Medical Directors in implementing goals, objectives, budgets and new programs.o Works with Medical Directors on resolution of technical and operational issues.o Supports Clinical Quality Management activities.
