- Under general direction, this position provides leadership, day-to-day management and functional expertise to the assigned area. May assist with day-to-day activities and implementations of large and/or high risk/visible projects.
- The Information Technology Services (ITS) division at our client seeks a collaborative Manager to provide leadership, operational and implementation responsibilities for the Project Management Office (PMO).
- This individual will facilitate the management of larger or higher risk/visibility information technology systems development projects and process improvement efforts. Projects can span several organizations across the university and deal with multiple IT platforms.
- This position works closely with clients to fully understand their requirements and define expectations. Following a disciplined project management methodology, this position is accountable for the detailed planning of steps and resources needed to meet the objective, monitors and prepares reports to ensure work is progressing to meet the deliverables on time and under budget. In addition, this position will help plan, implement, train, and mentor other project leaders on an enterprise project management methodology.
- The current work modality within Information Technology Services is a hybrid work environment with on-campus and remote components.
- The remote component is defined by the manager and as appropriate for the position.
- Maintains ownership of the continuing development, operations and ongoing improvements of the project management, quality assurance and business analysis methodologies and PMO efforts within the ITS division.
- Coordinates all aspects of the ITS project portfolio processing including repository data integrity, quality of content and leadership reporting.
- Work closely with end users to understand institutional needs/requirements in support of institutional objectives, capture and communicate the impact of recommended changes and develop the specifications for technology change.
- Ensure projects are properly defined, work efforts are estimated, and required resources are identified to ensure success throughout the project management lifecycle.
- Win agreement from stakeholders on project definition, critical success factors, and approach.
- Utilize work breakdown, estimating, and scheduling techniques to determine total work effort and task sequencing.
- Facilitate the process for negotiating between end users and various resources to ensure project expectations can be met. Must be able to influence and persuade individuals and/or groups to common ground solutions.
- Identifies, assesses and mitigates project risks that may jeopardize project completion.
- Continually maintain on-going documentation about project status and monitor progress towards completion. Uses project experience, technical knowledge, and team collaboration to resolve unforeseen issues and adjust resources and plans accordingly to meet the project requirements.
- Regularly communicates in writing and in-person to end users and resource contributors about project expectations and on-going status.
- Serve as a resource for other members of the ITS PMO to provide technical leadership and guidance. Provides input, direction, and management support to departmental standards regarding the project management processes, including methodology administration and compliance.
- Provides leadership and supervises business process architecture activities for all units across the university. Ability to illustrate the alignment (or lack thereof) between strategic goals and key business decisions regarding products and services; partners and suppliers; organization; capabilities; and key business and IT initiatives.
- Understanding of business analysis frameworks and supports the development of an integrated view of the business unit, in the context of the enterprise, using a repeatable approach, cohesive framework, and available industry standard techniques.
- Proactively manages change through existing change management processes.
- Full direct report ownership of Project Managers; technical development staff, project management consultants and student workers as required by project/work load.
- Performs other duties, responsibilities, and qualifications may be required and/or assigned as necessary.

- Bachelor’s degree in Project Management, Management Information Systems, Computer Science, Engineering or equivalent degree/experience. Master’s degree preferred.
- A minimum of 10 years of experience in project/program management, consulting or related experience preferably focused on information technology projects.
- A minimum of 3 years of experience of direct supervision, management and development of staff.
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in managing mid-large scale transformative projects, or applications development including a proven track record of success with managing multiple simultaneous projects and/or projects with a duration of 6+ months, multiple clients and teams of 6-20 people.
- A minimum of 2 years of experience running a PMO Office and/or ownership of enterprise project portfolios.
