Individuals with high emotional intelligence, humility and openness to discovery will thrive in the teams we are building.Join us!The Electrification and Advanced Power Solution Division (E&APSD) has an impactful career opportunity for a Power Electronics Components Engineer to support the development of Caterpillar Advanced Power Conversion Systems! In this critical role, you will serve as an individual contributor on complex and exciting advanced power products including megawatt class off-board DC chargers, bidirectional power converters for energy storage system and Caterpillar Power Quality System. Role will be responsible for the electrical design and performance of the above power conversion systems from development through production and will have the opportunity to collaborate with cooling, manufacturing, reliability team along with purchasing and validation teams.Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
Designing PEM (Power Electronics Module) including selection of components include switch devices (IGBT and SCR) gate drivers, capacitors, busbar using simulation and collaboration with process partners (e.g. cooling and structural) and suppliers
Creating technical requirements for magnetics components
Leading the print release effort for the PEM and magnetics
Developing and executing engineering verification and validation test plan and reports for lab and manufacturing facilities
Leading the field issue troubleshooting and resolution for the above components.
Collaborating with supporting teams to develop an FMEA based validation plan
Collaborating with manufacturing teams to optimize the product design for production
Collaborating with suppliers to develop and/or purchase components for use within the power conversion product line.
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field from an accredited curriculum
Experience with design and development of power electronics or power conversion systems
2+ years of relevant engineering work experience
Strong communication skills – Oral and written complemented by the ability to develop/deliver technical presentations
Top Candidates Will Also Have:
Master’s degree (or higher) in Electrical Engineering or related field from an accredited curriculum
Experience with PSIM, MatLab
Experience with PCB Design
Experience with new product introduction and FMEA based product development.
Experience working with suppliers and purchasing to introduce a new product to market.
Additional Information:
Position may sit in Mossville, IL, Tucson, AZ or Houston, TX
Hybrid work schedule is available. Role supports a combination of remote work and on-site work on a weekly basis
20% travel
