Freedman Seating Company, a leading manufacturer of bus and commercial truck seats located on the west side of Chicago, has an immediate opening for a Senior Buyer/Planner in our purchasing department. This individual will be responsible for negotiating with vendors for the timely procurement of parts and materials in support of our production process. Job Responsibilities include:
Plans materials based on open demand, forecasting, MQ, and inventory, then places purchase orders accordingly. Works cross functionally to support on time delivery efforts utilizing purchasing strategies to minimize costs through effective ordering quantities and frequency to minimize freight.
Negotiates pricing and contracts with vendors, insuring the best possible outcome for the company
Ensures the timely flow of materials into the plant, taking into consideration inventory turn. Creatively expedites materials with vendors, as needed, to minimize extra costs
Responsible for communicating with inventory control staff and production supervisors to verify and confirm material needs.
Ability to source materials and qualify new vendors based on cost and quality expectations
Track PPV and drive cost reductions
Identify and recommend material substitutions for engineering approval to prevent expedite situations or reduce costs
Has the ability to identify and implement process improvements and the collaboration skills to work cross functionally to solve process issues
Job Qualifications
Minimum of 6 years purchasing experience in a manufacturing environment.
Previous ERP system experience
Strong knowledge in Microsoft office, including Excel
Must have strong problem-solving abilities and negotiation skills
Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment and be able to handle multiple projects at one time.
Strong relationship development / vendor management skills
Demonstrate leadership ability for future job growth
