Role Summary The Data Governance Engineer Sr will be a skilled analyst and technician with the ability to leverage tools to catalog data; metadata, data classifications, data lineage, and data mapping to ensure this valuable information is properly stored and consumable to meet business data and compliance needs. The incumbent will be considered the IT product owner for data cataloging and workflow tool sets - current and future. This role will function as the primary IT Data Steward, working directly with the Data Governance Manager and associated sub-committees in support of established policies and procedures for data quality with initial emphasis on master and certified data sets and analytics repositories. We are looking for an experienced, energetic, and collaborative person who is passionate about data, understands technical tools and terminology, has business acumen, and ensures data cataloging requirements are properly stored and documentation is well written and concise.

Strategic Work
  • Educate and inform yourself and team members about metadata, lineage, mapping, and cataloging technology tool sets and solutions; stay informed on emerging trends
  • Continually participate in visioning exercises and contribute to the data strategy for VCI
Operational Work
  • Work collaboratively with the Manager, Data Governance and team in the data management, governance, and data quality of master and certified datasets along with analytical repositories. This includes processes which support the definition of data, ensure the quality of data, and the cataloging of this information into toolset(s) which meets stated business rules and requirements.
  • Ensure quality of master data in key systems, as well as, development and documentation of processes with other functional data owners through Data Governance led initiatives.
  • Collaborate with subject matter experts and data stewards to define and implement data strategy, policies, controls, and programs to ensure the enterprise data is accurate, complete, secure, and reliable.
  • Attend Data Governance sponsored meetings for Data Stewards and with other committees as deemed necessary
  • Understand complex business processes and relationships to determine downstream impacts to data and applications
  • Understand existing source system data models as well as the analytical repositories and data sets that serve as the integration target for these sources.
  • Identify areas for data quality improvements in collaboration with other data subject matter experts. Provide requirements to the IT Data Team for any processes that need to be added or modified in existing data quality checking routines.
  • Collaborate with business partners to identify, understand, and document functional and non-functional requirements resulting in new data cataloging, definition and mapping.
  • Participate in and support the full project life cycle (initiation, planning, requirements, analysis, design, development, quality assurance, user-acceptance testing, deployment, and production support)
  • Work within and across Agile teams to design, develop, test, implement, and support data cataloging solutions leveraging existing and future tool sets.
  • Document and support deployment activities.
  • Report on status of the toolset(s) and products which support the described data processes on a regular and timely basis.

Required Experience
  • 7-10 years' experience

Required Education
  • B.S. in Computer Science or related discipline.

Desired Education
  • Advanced Degree a plus

Required Skills:

  • Solid understanding and experience in both agile and traditional project development methodologies.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills (both written and verbal).

Required Specialized Skills
  • Experience in Data Governance practices, policies and procedures including metadata capture / documentation, data quality, data compliance, and data stewardship.
  • Advanced proficiency in data analysis, data profiling, data mapping, data lineage, metadata and data cataloging activities and processes
  • Thorough understanding of master and reference data; data quality and associated processes that maintain these foundational and certified data sets
  • Intermediate to advanced knowledge of relational & multi-dimensional databases, with emphasis on data warehousing and data lakes
  • Intermediate to advanced knowledge of structured query language (SQL) coding and execution
  • Working knowledge of ETL concepts and processes

Desired Specialized Skills
  • Experience with data integrity and data quality processes and concepts involving standardization, transformation, rationalization, and linking
  • Experience with Informatica Metadata Manager and Business Analyst tools or Informatica Enterprise Data Catalog
  • Cloud data platform experience; AWS cataloging and workflows - Glue, HCatalog, Lambda, Collibra
  • Experience with one or more business intelligence tools such as Business Objects, Tableau, or SAS
  • Experience with Oracle and SQL Server database management systems
  • Intermediate level experience with Big Data technologies such as Hadoop, Hive, Hue, etc
  • Intermediate level experience in open source technologies such as Python and R
  • Experience in Financial Services (automotive finance preferable)

Work Flexibility
  • Travel possible up to 15%
  • Onsite, remote work on Manager's direction
  • Minimum 8 hours per day, M-F.
  • Will be responsible for level 2 support outside of normal working hours
