Job Description

The

Transplant Assistant reflects the mission, vision, and values of NM, adheres to the organization's Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program, and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines and all other regulatory and accreditation standards.

Responsibilities:

  • Under the direction of the Transplant Nurse Coordinator (TNC), Support Services Manager or Clinic Resource Coordinator, this position schedules initial and follow up appointments for donors, potential recipients, and recipients.
  • Enters test orders, documents and retrieves test results.
  • Coordinates scheduling with (but not limited to): physicians, admitting, PFS liaison, lab department, psychiatry, and social work.
  • Assists in the arrangements of living related/non-related organ donation and transplantation.
  • Assembles packets of information for patients/ patients families to be used at meetings, education sessions, or individually, both handed out or mailed.
  • Works with PFS liaison to obtain insurance information for all patients prior to or on the evaluation day.
  • Maintains contact with the organ and donor candidates in order to obtain updated medical information and reports.
  • Facilitates clinic throughput.
  • Make discharge appointments for hospitalized patients.
  • Enters clinic charges.
  • Collects and reports data.
  • Manages off-site housing program.
  • Obtains financial pre-authorizations for medications and/or diagnostic testing.
  • Faxes or mails medical information to the case managers, referring physicians and consulting physicians.
  • Completes and mails or faxes paperwork such a FMLA and Medicare forms.
  • Under the direction of the Transplant Social Worker, assists patients in the Patient Assistance Program.
  • Documents according to institutional and/or programs standards.
  • Participates on committees and attends meetings as appropriate.
  • Collaborates with other Transplant Assistants in order to assure that all responsibilities are covered when one Transplant Assistant is absent.
  • The Assistants may rotate some tasks as appropriate and approved by the Transplant Nurse Coordinators, Support Services Manager or Clinic Resource Coordinator.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required:

  • High school diploma.
  • Medical/Healthcare experience (e.g. unit secretary, doctors office, etc.).
  • Office skills (keyboarding, Word, Excel).

Preferred:

  • Previous appointment scheduling experience.
